SRM Entrance Exam. It was one of the very few universities to be offering a high-caliber course in biotechnology at that time.

The course structure was such that students can pay enough attention to both theory and practical research initiatives. Electives are based on your own choice, and allow you to branch out into a discipline while learning more about subjects you are interested in. Electives vary from Bio refineries, Neurobiology, Immunology, etc.

While at my time at SRM, there were no companies coming in for paid internships. As part of our final year, we were encouraged to take up internship projects of our own at reputed institutions, and the payment details were strictly discussed between the internee and the employer.

The annual tuition fee for Biotech was 250,000, payable on a semester-wise basis. On top of that the other fees used to include First year One-time non-refundable and non-transferable Registration Fee of Rs.10,000/- for all programs. Examination Fee per Semester will be additional based on the number of subjects registered for examination.

The canteen food is awesome but the hostel food is just horrible except for some days. This is more to do with students coming in from all walks of life and different parts of India, but having to adjust with predominantly South-Indian food. The quality of the food is good, it's just that students are kind-of fed up eating the same food over and over again. And most of the students admitted in SRM belong to a wealthy family, so they have a real hard-time compromising with the food offered.

Weekly test and monthly exams were the norm. Labs were based on the number of subjects we were undertaking, and were quite useful in their variety and mode of instruction. The exam structure was quite hectic, and there were only a few months in the year when you could feel totally relaxed.

The admission process is quite smooth. After writing the entrance exam, I was awarded a seat on merit. The admission takes place in their Kattankulathur campus and usually requires students and parent to devote 2 days for the formalities to be completed. You can pay an initial amount to show your interest, and then book the seat if you would like to proceed with the admissions.

The faculty is quite helpful in the following ways: 1) Planned instructional management 2) Strategic teaching methods 3) Use assessments to inform students of their educational growth 4) Work within the constraints of the current system 5) Set priorities and allow students to grasp their importance on their own
