Life at Hel(L)- IIM Lucknow

It is a fantastic institute to complete your post graduation.

I gave CAT for getting into IIM. I wanted to diversify my options after engineering therefore I chose this course over others.

The curriculum is 50% case based and 50% theory based which is a very effective way of delivering the course. This ensures peer learning as well as learning from the professor. As compared to other Bschools the course here is academically rigorous. However most of the cases used are from Harvard Business School.

Yes we do have a mandatory internship for a period of two months which is called summer internship. Generally a lot of companies come to recruit and the average spend is greater that 1 lakh rupees.

IIM Lucknow has excellent placement and job opportunities. We have a record of wrapping up the placements in 3 days (100%). Companies ranging from FMCGs, Consultancies, finance companies, banks visit the campus The packages at IIM Lucknow ranges from 15 Lakh to 1 crore.

All the major festivals are celebrated in a pompous way in the campus. This is ensured by the Cultural Committee at IIM Lucknow. Before candidates come to campus they have a ice breaker competition called Anti-Purgatory which is 7 stages for entry to Hel(L)- as Lucknow campus is popularly referred. We also have Diwali,Holi, Navratri, Lohri, Christmas. New year and institute parties. We also have a Fest called Manfest Varchasva and marketing Fest called index.

The fees for the course is about 15 lakhs. This includes mess, hostel and course fees. Books are given by the institute. The fee structure is at par with the other IIMs. It might seem expensive however a lot of banks are ready to give loan to students getting into IIM at a lower interest rate.

All the major banks offer loans to students at a lower interest rate. We have CBI and SBI bank inside in the campus which provides loan in a day. Also we have a lot of scholarships.

The gender ratio at IIM Lucknow is 3:1. We have 33% females in our batch. The major engaging activites on the campus are carried out by sports committee and cultural committee. We also have exchange students visiting our campus for 2 terms. Also a lot of students go for exchange from our campus as well.

Lucknow is known to have one of the best mess across all the IIMs. It is the only student run mess which is entirely managed by the students. There are 17 hostels. 8 old hostels and the rest are new . However the facilities at the hostels are decent. Single occupancy rooms are provided to everyone.

The first batch graduated in the year 1984. Post that we have 31 batches which have graduated now. We have a strong 9000 Alumni base. They meet every month in major cities.

We have 6 semesters at IIM Lucknow. Each semester has 1 mid term and 1 end term. Every course has weightage to projects, class participation, quizez and examinations. The first year is hectic and rigorous. However the second year is quite manageable.

First qualifier for getting into any IIM is CAT. After securing a good score a composite score is calculated based on your 10th, 12th, graduation percentage and your work experience years. According to your composite score IIMs shortlist you. Every IIM has a different weightage for all the parameters. The next step after getting shortlisted is WAT (written ability test) and personal interview. Based on the composite score and WAT-PI score the final candidates are shortlisted.

The faculty at IIM Lucknow is a mix of professionals, industry experts and academicians. We also have adjunct faculty who visit campus. The faculty are very keen on delivering the best to students. We have some finance faculty who have worked with RBI earlier. Also the marketing faculty continuously undertakes projects from FMCGs.
