Durgesh Kumar's Review On IIT BHU - Indian Institute Of Technology, Varanasi

My overall experience has been nice. The good point is that you are free to try out these new things and no one is going to forcefully control the decisions you make.

IIT(BHU), Varanasi admits student by the prestigious JEE(Advanced). There is no interview process. Students are admitted solely on their JEE Advanced rank. I am a student of Department of Electrical Engineering. I got into this department as I was genuinely interested in this field.

The courses are rigorous but interesting. There are lot of electives both within department and inter-department as well. The courses focus on practical learning. There are lot of ongoing projects where students can contribute. Students can take Semester Projects with a faculty and can carry research work.

Lot of companies visit for internship. Opportunity for foreign internship is also available for students interested in research.

Placement scenario is great. All major software companies in addition to core engineering and consulting companies visit campus. Most students who want to pursue job land in good companies. The package is decent varying according to the profile of the job.

Technex, the annual Techno-management fest of IIT(BHU) is well known. Kashiyatra is the cultural festival and Spardha is the sports festival. All of them are organised at a grand level with participants visiting from all major campuses.

Now, for General and OBC students having family income more than 5 lakh have to pay 1 lakh as tuition fee per semester. 2/3rd of tuition fee is remitted for students having family income between 1 lakh and 5 lakh. Full reduction of fee for SC, ST, PH students and General, OBC students having family income less than 1 lakh.

Institute provides scholarship to meritorious students.

There are a lot of forums available in the college for the same. My experience so far has been mixed. It has been a blend of joy and hardships. But make no mistake, there is no dearth of opportunity here.

There is a dedicated Student and Alumni Interaction Cell for this purpose. Being one of the oldest colleges, IIT(BHU) has wide base of alumni.

The faculty across departments are qualified and have loads of experience under their command. A productive educational environment is there in the Institute due to teachers and students motivated towards an efficient and enjoyable educational interaction through exposure to research-based, scientifically-proven, and innovative teaching-learning methodologies.
