The only way to get into any of the NITs is through JEE mains.

I'm specializing in Information technology. The best part of this branch is, maximum focus is given on projects and practical applications rather than just focusing on the theoretical part. We end up doing at least 5 projects per semester.

Most of the companies that come for placements, recruit interns ass well. Internship process happens while the student in his/her 5th and 6th semester. Most of them who secure internship end up getting PPO (Pre placement offer) from the company. It is compulsory for every student to have at least one internship (of minimum 8 weeks).

Normally the placements in NITK commence in the beginning of the final year (Pre-final Semester) i.e. in the month of July. IT/CS has almost 100% placements every year, except for those who choose not to sit for the placements because of higher studies or any other personal interest. Wide range of companies visit college, so one can choose the company according to their field of interest. Some companies (like Uber and Adobe) pays as high as 30+ LPA, while Microsoft, Oracle, and few other companies pays 20+ LPA. Rest of the IT companies pay on an average 8 - 15 LPA. NITK strictly follows one student one company policy, i.e. once you're placed you cannot apply for other companies on campus (except if the company is super dream). NITK has two main fests "Engineer" - the technical fest (in the month of October) and "Incident" - the cultural fest (in the month of March). One gets to see mind blowing projects during Engineer and get amazed by the cultural extravaganza during Incident. Events keep on happening all throughout the year and not just during these fests viz. musical night, Panche (Inter branch dance competition), Spandan (Fashion show + dance competition), etc.

NITK being one of the central government college it provides pretty good number of scholarships. College provides Merit / Merit cum means scholarship for people with exceptional academic performance. Students whose ranking is within 5000 AIR also receive the scholarship from the college. Also, it is very easy to get an educational loan being a student of NITK.

The kind of exposure we get here in NITK is tremendous. This is a full fledged place this is for both academics as well as extra curricular. NITK mainly has 5 technical clubs like (IEEE, ACM, ISTE, IE, IET) and not technical clubs like (Rotaract club, music club, dance club, Artist forum, etc). One can join any of these club based on their interest. It is the best place to network with people and one can take up their own project based on their interest, seniors and faculty will always be there to help.

Hostel life is really amazing in NITK. First and second year students have shared accommodation, whereas third and final year students have single accommodation. Absolutely zero ragging in girls' hostel. Pretty good Internet facility (LAN and WiFi). We have hostel fresher's party for the first years and farewell party for the final years. It is definitely home away from home.

NITK has extremely good alumni network. Alumni meet happens every year, which in turn brings lot of opportunities including entrepreneurship opportunities for the current students.

As per IT dept is concerned we mainly have projects and almost every subject has lab hours, so we mostly have mid semester exam, end semester exam, lab and project evaluation that counts for grading. Projects may get hectic at times, but its worth the pressure.

Some of the branches like ECE, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, EEE have experienced professors. IT lacks in having great faculty, nevertheless we end up learning on our own.
