Course Curriculum Overview
I choose this course because the Electrical Engineering course offered at NIT Rourkela is one of the best in the country and I have a deep interest in Electrical Engineering and also in IT. Faculty to student ratio is almost 1:120. The faculty hold a very good academic background and are into research also. NIT Rourkela is one of the best in the country for research work also. But the teaching method of professors is not that good. They know the subject but knowing a thing and making it understand to others are two different things. So I think in that area they need to do some improvements. A total of four exams are held in a year. Each semester has two exams: mid-semester exams and end-semester exams. Mid-semester exams are of 30 marks and are of 2 hours duration. End sem exmas are of 50 marks and are of 3 hours duration. Exams are sometimes tough and sometimes easy, there is no fixed pattern.
Internships Opportunities
Various companies visit the campus for intership opportunities in the campus. Students can avail internships from the 5th semester. The average stipend is 60k. Some students managed to get into GSoC in the first year itself, so they are getting paid around 2.5 lacs for 3 months of working in their mentor company
Placement Experience
From 7 semesters, students are eligible for college placements. There were 325 recruiters who visited the NIT Rourkela campus placements, among these the top recruiters were Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. Of the 325 recruiters, 100 recruiters were absolutely new recruiters. These recruiters were able to provide 1274 job offers to students. The highest package was from Atlassian this year which was 82 lpa. Almost 90 percent of students were placed this year
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are fixed for all the semesters at the time of admission also. If the family income is less than 5 lacs or you are using a reservation under SC/ST category then you can avail fee reduction. There are various scholarships, you just have to search for them at the correct times.
Campus Life
Campus life at NIT Rourkela is just amazing. There are a total of 4 fests held in NIT Rourkela. The annual fest is NITRUTSAV which is held in the month of March. Technical fest of INNOVISION which was held in the month of February. Two more fests are there, namely Multiethnic Fest, and Cosmopoliton. Then there is Sports Fest Vridhi which holds mostly at the start of the session. The library is digitalized and offline. Almost all the books in the curriculum are there, many other books are also available. They can be issued easily using student ID cards. The classrooms are pretty big. They have an ample amount of seats. All the classes in Lecture Avenue are air-conditioned. Proper mic and smart boards are available. A variety of sports facilities are provided on the campus. NIT R has Olympic size swimming pool also. Basketball courts are there, badminton courts are there, cricket ground is there. There are various clubs ranging from singing and dancing to coding to electric vehicle making clubs.
Admission
You can get admission to NIT Rourkela through JOSAA counselling. To get eligible for the JOSAA counselling you have to give JEE Main examination. The cut-off for general category candidates is around the 90 percentile.
