Remarks

The Jadavpur campus is quite vibrant. The social life is extraordinary . The students are the heart and soul of the university and we always strive to make it proud. Its one of best colleges in India and we always strive to make it better.

Entrance Preview

For getting admission in JU a student has to crack the WBJEE exam conducted by West Bengal Council for Education. A student acquiring a rank within 2000 can get a branch at JU. But the most sought after departments like CSE and Etce have a closing rank of around 200-300. No interview process is conducted for the admission to BE course. I had acquired a rank of 964 in my WBJEE and am currently studying Chemical Engineering. Chemical engineering is diverse subject and has lots of scope both in professional as well as research fields. The subjects taught in Chemical Engineering are quite interesting and I have fallen in love with stream.

Internships Opportunities

Various companies come to our campus for recruitmemt of interns. Apart fr these the students may perform an internship under any professor of the university. Although no formal internship is organised by the institute, the professors usually write recommendations to various industries like IOCl and also educational institutes.

Placement Experience

4

The placement scenario at JU is quite good. Departments like CSE and Etce record 100% placements. The placements in chemical engineering is also quite good .Nearly 50% of the students get placed in core companies through campus placement drives. Various consultancies and private banks like HSBC also recruit from JU. Apart from these, students scoring good marks in Gate, cat and gre go for higher educations at reputed various institutions. Some students also go for a job in PSU.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Jadavpur University has one of the lowest fee structures among Engineering colleges in India. The semester fees is only 64 rupees, less than 1 cup of coffee at starbucks. Apart from the semester fees one needs to pay an admission fee of 3000 while taking admission in 1st year. At the end of 2nd year an additional fee of 2500 is also to be given. The facilities at Jadavpur are quite a bargain considering the fee structure.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

I dont use use hostel accomodation as my home is near the university campus. But I have been to the main hostel quite a few times. The hostel room are quite spacy and air circulation is quite nice. Although the rooms are shared by 2-3 people there is enough room for all the students. Within the hostel campus there are multiple playgrounds along with rooms for various indoor games. There is a large pond within the campus which embellish the hostel atmosphere. But there are also certain problems regarding the hostel, which the authorities are trying to overcome. The students sometimes feel that the food is too monotonous and also show grievance about the hygiene of the food. The rooms donot have ACs , so the students are very much troubled by the summer heat. But considering the meagre fees that the authorities take, we cannot complain much. Apart from these, various events like block day and hostel reunion are a part and parcel of hostel life which are quite the stress busters. The atmosphere at JU hostel is quite friendly and you would never feel lonely. Apart from the main hostel there are two girls hostel. Sadly boys are not allowed there, so I have never had the opportunity of knowing the hostel facilities there.

Exam Structure

The BE course in Jadavpur University is divided into 8 semesters continuing for 4 years. During each semester, the students are expected to learn 5-6 theoretical subjects ,along with 2-3 sessional subjects (experimental learning). At the end of the semester the students have to appear for a 100 marks exam. Apart from the semester exam there are two midsem exams the marks of which are reflected in the final grade card. In the sessional subjects the students need to be regular in the lab. Students with poor attendance are not allowed to pass the subject and are given a year back. The sessional teachers usually take a viva- voice exam at the end of the semester which carry certain percentage of marks. A student has to pass in all the sessional subjects in order to go to the subsequent year. The questions given in the semester exams are not that difficult and a person who has been regular in class will actually find them easy. Although , if a person still fails to pass this exam he/ she is allowed to sit for an supplementary exam as second chance to pass the subject. A person failing in a subject will be allowed to go to the subsequent year but clearing the supplementary exam is needed for getting a degree. The students are usually quite chilled about the theoretical exams a always clear the subject in a supplementary exam.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty at JU is quite qualified. All the professors have a PHD from various reputed institutions. The professors are selected on the basis of academics as well as performance in the interview process. Most of the professors are quite interactive and try to clear all the doubts within the class . The standard of teaching is quite high, as the professors are very experienced. The professors try to explain the course as lucidly as possible and in a way the students find it interesting.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
