- Petroleum Branch of IIT ISM, is a low opening rank branch that has potential equivalent to CS branch

- Over strictness of the administration, which helps maintain discipline, is just too rude at times
- Hostel rooms are not cleaned regularly, and it's our responsibility to do so, whereas vaccum cleaner is run on the floors
- Lift doesn't work for most part of the year in boys hostel
Course Curriculum Overview
The Mining Engineering course at IIT ISM Dhanbad ranks 1 in India. This special fact opens up a nice enough choice for those students who just missed four digit rank in JEE Advanced because of a few silly mistakes(for the gen. category). The above two reasons mainly led me to choose IIT ISM Mining without regrets. There are a lot of vacant spaces for new professors, and the faculty: student ratio could be improved. Most faculties over here are highly qualified individuals irrespective of their teaching styles. I admit that the teaching methodology of some professors could be improved, but when it comes to the things under the control of college authority things were good enough. Exams were very timely, and most importantly adjustable as well, as per the needs of the students and professors. Passing was easy, whereas for 9+ CGPA efforts were needed.
Internships Opportunities
Almost all major companies visit IIT ISM for their internship drive. Prices vary over a wide range, i.e., from 10k-2L per month. Mostly every student has an internship at hand by the end of their second year. Some are successful in landing up with multiple internships as well whereas very few make it to more than half a dozen, in which case some off-campus contributions are there as well.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fee for the general category/OBC is 1,00,000 per semester, whereas it's a full waiver for SC/ST candidates. The mess+hostel fees keep varying per semester and could be ranging anywhere between 20k to 36k. Not much idea about scholarships, since didn't avail one yet.
Campus Life
Fabulous campus life. Annual Fest- Srijan, in February, Tech Fest- Concetto, in October, Academic books are easily available in the library on multiple frequencies. Some journals are present as well. What could probably be improved is the no. of literature /story books. Rest is all well as far as the library is concerned. Quite satisfied with it. Classrooms are quite good, although ACs are recommended. Besides cricket and football, many other sports activities go on campus regularly. There are a variety of clubs in the college, mostly run by students such as Mic Drop, LITM(Dance Club), CyberLabs(technical clubs), etc. There's also a finance technology club under NVCTI in IIT ISM known as FinTech, which is a good opportunity for aspiring students to excel in the stock market using modern technology advancements and ML.
Admission
A student might or not be eligible for a seat at an IIT(ISM) Dhanbad, depending on his/her performance in JEE Advanced. The cut-off varies from year to year but for Mining Engineering it was 15k+ in 2022. For detailed Opening and Closing ranks, the JOSAA website could be referred to. Once you have registered on JOSAA, and after having a seat allotted in IIT ISM, you shall receive a mall from IIT ISM, and further details can be inferred from the subsequent emails. As far as the admission process is concerned, I would be pleased to say that it's taken care of by JOSAA itself, and hence no significant changes are needed as of now.
