Great College for Career

My overall experience has been very good in this campus till now and one beautiful about this college is that there exists a very strong unity among the students being an host elite its been an awesome journey till now.

I wrote the Joint Entrance Examination mains and with a rank of 21079 I got admission in the mechanical engineering department of this prestigious college. The process of admission was absolutely normal, i.e admission on result basis. I always had a passion to do field work for which I was determined enough to take either mechanical or civil. At the end after getting admission in this college I was happy enough and till now its good going.

The course is B.tech in Mechanical Engineering. Till now I have experienced a lot of industrial exposure specially in the excursions conducted by the department in the railways for which we have got a lot of practical learning. Research is done in a full fledged way in IIEST. Many professors have been selected for various research projects by the Govt.of India. Many students also do projects which eventually led to the publish of the same. Mini projects are also included in the curriculum because of which students get an idea of their 4th year thesis project.

Internships are also provided by the Tnp cell. They arrange them for us. Also the students do internships and training if they have their own personal contacts. Average stipend that a student gets from internships is 8000.

The placement scenario is also very good in this college. Companies start recruitment from the month of august itself. In my department as placements are still going on , last year out of 58 students 42 got placed in companies like Maruti, Coal India, Pwc, Infosys etc. The other major that visited the campus were Microsoft, Veritas, Vedanta Group, M.N. Dastur, Larsen & Turbo, CESC Britannia. The average package was 5.5 lakhs per annum( including all departments)

There are two main fests of this college. One is REBECA(cultural) and the other is INSTRUO(technical fest). Other fests like Oikotaan(musical fest), KRITI( creative art fest) are also held. Sports fest Like UTTEJNA, TIME OUT are also there which has a huge footfall. Students and other people from other colleges also come and take part in these fests. REBECA is 79 years old fest and its the largest in the city of joy.

The fee structure was affordable being about 55000 per semester (including mess fees). The tuition fee per semester is 35000 and the hostel fee is 1900. Remaining is the mess fee which vary from 3000 to 3500 per month

Scholarship is given by GAABESU(alumni network) . I personally have no scholarship. The college helps out in giving educational loan to the economically weak students.

I must say that students get a huge platform in order to showcase their hidden talent. There are 23 cultural and technical clubs and societies in this Campus. Dance, music, Debate, robotics, sports all are available to the students. I am interested in dance and a I regularly go for practice to the Students Amenity Center( a place for student Activities) and the facilities provided are very good.

Yes I am a host elite. Till the 2nd year we had to share room with 4 people. But from 3rd year we were given single rooms. There are 16 hostels and halls in the campus. There are some PG's also inside the campus. The food in the hostels and Halls is very good. Whatever we eat sums up at the end of the year and its well maintained through the Hall Management System.

This requires no description. IIEST shibpur is INDIA's second oldest engineering college so it is obvious that the Alumni network is one of the largest in the world. Every year the student alumni meet takes place and also they have contributed a lot in the all round development of the college.

Exams are held twice in a semester(written exam) one is the mid term and one is the end term. Exams for the 1st year and 3rd year happens during the second half of the day and the exams of the 2nd and 4th year happens during 1st half of the day. So in this way it takes place in a very systematic manner and tiredness does not prevail.

The faculty is very good here. The are very experienced both in research and industry. Most of the teachers are pass out from IIEST only which makes them very friendly with the students here and they are highly cooperative.
