Remarks
Only expect a good time that too if you end up having a good circle. Also there are floods almost every year so be prepared for postponing exams and evacuations.
Entrance Preview
For admission in any of the SRM campuses you have to write the SRMJEE. I gave the offline format, the exam was relatively easier than those of VIT,BITS etc. (at least back in 2015 when I gave the exam). I wrote the exam halfheartedly and still managed to secure a rank in 5000. I took CSE because I used to believe I was good at coding.
Course Curriculum Overview
I would say that the core course curriculum for any B.Tech degree hasn't been updated since the 80s, except addition of a few courses such as Python,Machine Learning,Big Data etc. which too come in the third year of college. The first two years is learning historic tech which is pretty useless to be honest.
Internships Opportunities
No, the internship scene is practically non-existent. you're on your own there. You are expected to do an internship but the college won't help you get one.
Placement Experience
Placement is largely driven by the market. Right now the market is low so the placements are hard to come by. It's not like no one gets placed, it's just that the competition is very tough as the no. of students is huge.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The base fee starts at 1.8 LPA which is when you have a decent rank for the field you want. If you don't have a decent rank then the annual fee goes upto 3.5lakh. So that sums up to be 14 lakh in just course fee.
Hostel Facilities
I stayed in the AC hostel - fee 2 lakh(food included). Food is below average for the money they ask. There are cheaper hostels too. Most of the students after the first year move out of the hostel and get an apartment which is relatively cheaper and way more fun and your college life cant get better after that.
Exam Structure
Labs can be pretty stressful in the first year of college, it gets easier as you come into the senior years. It all depends on your faculty actually, how chill they are.
Faculty
Here's a untold secret about engineering colleges. Faculty doesn't matter(unless you're in IIT or NIT). For most of private colleges. It's a huge university, so there is a mix of all kinds of faculty, there are professors who are extremely qualified and then there are SRM graduates teaching in SRM after a few years of working in the industry. WHAT YOU MAKE OF YOUR 4 YEARS IS ALL ON YOU.
