The timings for b.com students is 7 a.m.- 12:30 p.m, but the classes for the 1st and 2nd year students generally get over by 10:15 and we get the rest of the day free for other stuff.

We had to apply for admission and then sit for an interview, post which the selected applicants' names were listed out on the college website. I chose to pursue B.Com Hons. since it has a wider range of commerce subjects than other courses.

I'm pretty satisfied with the course i chose to pursue. J.D. Birla Institute is one of the best colleges for b.com in Kolkata and definitely the best all girls' college in the city. The college emphasizes quite a lot on practical learning. It conducts personality development classes for one full semester which is so much fun and useful. The college also has mandatory term papers and seminars each semester to build up the students' presentation skills and confidence in public speaking.

No, the college doesn't provide internships for the B.com Hons students as of now.

The fees is to be paid semester-wise, i.e, twice a year. For the first semester, the admission fee is included and thus is comparatively higher than the other semesters. My fees for the first semester was Rs. 75300, Rs. 28950 for the second semester and Rs. 31800 for the third semester, all inclusive of the tuition, examination, library, magazine fees and social activity charges. The second semester included the soft skill and personality development training fees as well. At the beginning of each year, a fee of Rs. 100 has to be paid for college identity and library card (the above figures for the 1st and 3rd semester included it).

Being a resident of Kolkata, I didn't need to stay in a hostel or PG. There are a variety of PGs near the college and they have options for single rooms and sharing and other facilities and they charge accordingly.

There are two internals and one end-sem examination conducted each semester like in any other regular b.com college. Also the labs are required only for subjects,like tally, which required the usage of computers by the students.

The teachers put in effort to evaluate a class and teach it accordingly. they use ppts to try and make the classes more interesting and are readily available, even after the classes, to help out students. At the end of each semester an evaluation report is conducted where the students are asked to fill out a form anonymously in which they have to mark their subject teachers in various fields like punctuality, inter activeness, etc.
