Remarks
The college infrastructure is average (though still better compared to other colleges of DU). The academics of the college does not live upto the hype in many courses. Barring these few negative factors, my overall experience in the campus has been good.
Entrance Preview
There is no entrance exam for undergraduate studies in this college. The admissions are made on the basis of class 12th board percentage. I scored 96% in CBSE board exams and got admission in 2nd cut off list. There was no interview process. My course is B.Sc.(H) Statistics. My interest in pursuing a technical and specialised subject made my choose this course.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course I chose (B.Sc.(H) Statistics) is pretty good. Although it's a relatively new course, it has tremendous oppurtunities for jobs and further studies, which not many people are aware about (like actuarial sciences, data analytics etc.).Though there is one downside, that the course has more weightage on theory than on practicals. It's a very theory based course and requires a good mathematical understanding as well as hard work. In my college (KMC), there are quite a few elective options available (the favoured ones being Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics etc.).
Internships Opportunities
The placement cell (Avenues) provides many internship oppurtunites to the students. I am still in the first semester, so I haven't yet taken up any internship, but some of my friends have been able to easily get internships in good companies. One gets ample internship oppurtunities if one wants to do so. The placement cell of the college is very active in this regard.
Placement Experience
The college has its own placement cell called Avenues. The students can sit for the college placements or the central placements organised for central placement cell of the university. The placements are good. The average package in courses like Economics and B.Com ranges from 4-4.8 lakhs pa. Though not all students decide to go for placements. Many of them opt for higher studies like pursuing actuarial sciences, chartered accountancy or going for Masters. Many even go for civil services. Some major companies visit the campus like ITC, Deloitte, Genpact, Capital IQ, EY etc. Most of the placements are either for articleship (CA) or for analyst profiles.
College Events
There are tons of fests organised throughout the year in KMC. The annual cultural fest of KMC, Renaissance is known to be one of the best in Delhi University. It is a very big crowd puller. Apart from the main cultural fest, many departments and societies have their own fests like Advent of the commerce society which witnesses a huge crowd from all over the University. In terms of fests, KMC is one of the most happening colleges of DU.
Fee Structure And Facilities
One of the best things about KMC is its affordable fee structure. The whole annual fees for my course was about INR 11,000 (excluding hostel fees, but including everything else). So it is very economical to study here.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college did not provide any scholarship or loan facility as far as I am aware. Though there are many external scholarships available (provided by private organisations or the government) like CSS Scholarship, Inspire Scholarship, Sitaram Jindal Scholarship etc.
Campus Life
KMC is best known for its extracirrucular activities (ECAs). There are a lot of societies (Musoc-The Music society, Players-The Dramatics society etc.). Although to be able to get selected in some cell or society, you need to already have talent. It is very tough to be selected in a society if you just want to learn from starting and don't have any prior experience. The facilities for the practice sessions of the societies are poor. There are no designated rooms for the activities of many societies. Still if you're talented and determined, the oppurtunities available to grow and showcase your talent are immense.
Hostel Facilities
Though I am not residing in hostel, from what I have heard, the hostel rooms are a bit messy and dirty. The common washrooms are very dirty most of the time. The rooms are on sharing basis. The hostel food was average. But there are many PGs available near the college (in Kamala Nagar area) which offer good spacious rooms and good food.
Alumni/Alumna
The college has a very wide alumni network, with many people working in big organisations and many of them making their names in different fields. But there hasn't been any proper platform for student-alumni interaction till now. Some alumni have made huge contributions for the development of the college infrastructure.
Exam Structure
The internal exams were not frequent and we had quite a lot of time to study for them (atleast in the first semester, though the course gets a bit difficult and tiring from second semester). We had 2 lab classes a week, one computer lab class and one Statistics lab class. So in terms of exams, the culture here is quite chill. But in terms of classes, it can be tiring if you attend all the classes (which not many students do).
Faculty
As in every other college, KMC has some good teachers, some average teachers and some teachers who are not upto the mark. In my course, some teachers are very experienced (over 25 years of teaching experience) while some are not. A few teachers teach very poorly and teach just for the sake of teaching, and are not much interactive and even behave very rudely. I would say that barring a few teachers, the standard of teaching is not upto the mark and does not meet the hype of the college.
