My beautiful college

Overall B Borooah College is a one of the best College in the state of Assam as well as North East India. The cultural terms of the college is mentionable. Singers and actors like Zubeen Garg, Adil Hussain, etc. are the alumni of the college.

B Borooah College is considered one of the best colleges in Assam and North East as well. I landed up here on my own choice. To my knowledge some of the departments are best in the entire north-east. Yes, there were entrance exams​ conducted by every​ departments individually. I applied for admission in two departments i.e. Zoology & Botany for UG(3 years degree) course. I wrote two entrance exams for zoology and botany separately. I qualified both the exam. My first priority was zoology. So I choosed the course for Zoology.

The course was quite good. The department focuses greatly on practical learning. The practical research laboratories were sufficiently equipped with modern equipments as recognised by Gauhati University for PhD research. An institutional Biotech Hub is present with assistance from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology,Govt. of India. The department regularly subscribes to research journals like Bioscience, Current Science, Journal of Environmental Biology and Down to earth. Moreover, ZOON a research journal (ISSN 2394-0182) is published annually. Many Research activities are carried out for PhD under supervision of faculty members recognised as PhD guides by Gauhati University. For 3 years degree course in science the College offers different subject combination considering one of them as a major subject like- 1. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics 2. Zoology, Botany, Chemistry 3. Physics, Statistics, Mathematics 4. Physics, Geography, Mathematics 5. Statistics, Chemistry, Mathematics 6. Zoology, Botany, Geography 7. No, the college doesn't provide an internship. A number of major and minor research projects are underway in the college under financial assistance from various central agencies like UGC, DBT, DST, ICCSR, etc. Seminars and Workshops are conducted in the College on regular basis.

The placement scenario was interesting. Everyone had dressed smartly making a charm on their personality. Nearly about 70-80 % of the students got placed in different companies like TCSL, Vijaya Bank, HDFC, Wipro, Win Medicare, Aircel, ACC cement, Jet Airways, IBM etc. The average package was different for different companies.

The college's techno-cultural fest "YOUTH CONCLAVE" was organised in the college campus annually. Is was sponsored by many organisations and companies like Yamaha, telegraph, radio gup-shup, uber, concept, sony, prag-news, aircel, etc. Nearly 10,000 people arrived at the event. Other events include The College Foundation Day, Bhola Borooah Debate (North East inter-college debating competition), Drama (Bhaona), National​ Science Day, International women's day, College Week, etc.

The Fee Structure of our college is quite affordable. For B.Sc course the admission fee is about Rs. 6930 annually(2017-2018). After major selection an additional amount of Rs. 480 must be paid on respective departments in science stream.

The College facilitates students in availing of a number of scholarships- 1. Merit Scholarships 2. Scholarship to students from SC, ST and OBC categories. 3. Scholarship to students from minority communities. 4. National Scholarship 5. Mother language non-speaker Hindi Scholarship (for Assam only). 6. UGC sponsored Ishan Uday Scholarship for north-east india. Yes, I avail the Ishan Uday Scholarship. Yes, the College help in getting some loan. There is a Students' Aid Fund which provides financial help to economically backward and meritorious students.

In terms of extracurriculars the college is quite good as well. There are number of events conducted by the College which provides a platform to showcase the talent and explore their potential. There are also different social welfare and utility service units in the college like NSS (National Service Scheme), NCC (National Cadet Corps). There is a gymnasium in the college campus.

Yes, I am a hostel boarder. There are rooms with 4 sitters on sharing. Four beds are provided, 4 tables, 4 chairs, and 4 bookshelf. One room posses 2 ceiling fans. Hostel intake students with special admission procedure based on merit. The hostel annual fees is Rs. 10000 (including room rent, electricity, other charges). The monthly mess dues(fooding) is variable (depending on the prices of food products in the market) which remains in between Rs. 1000-2000. The food is satisfactory. We have routine on weekly basis. Morning tea at 6 am. Breakfast at 9 am. Lunch at 12.30 pm. Dinner at 9.30 pm.

The College has an Alumni Association with a permanent office in the college campus. It holds periodic meeting to keep in touch with the Alumni. The Alumni Association has completed a number of projects in the college. The college appeals to all former students to join the Alumni Association by contacting the office bearers and to keep in touch with their Alma matter.

Frequent exams are less. Yes, it is a chill culture to spend the day on the labs learning new interesting things. Sometimes, it make us feel tired too.

The faculty members are highly qualified and experienced in their respective fields of study. Most of the faculty members have completed their PhD degrees from reputed Universities of India. Out of them many are recognised as PhD guides by Gauhati University. The teachers are very much interactive. They are friendly and strict as well. The friendly attitude of the teachers allow us to ask questions without hesitation. The standard of teaching can be concluded good. The teachers regularly give us home assignment's on informative topics so that we opt to know more. They make the subject matter meaningful to us by applying some practical techniques or explaining the topic in practical view by giving examples beyond the scope of the topic. They understand the learning ability of the students create instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners. Besides this the motivational speeches​ of the teachers are quite influential.
