Remarks

My college life was one of the happiest phases of my life as every other people. That was the turning point of my life which provided me with the knowledge to live and for my livelihood. The motto of our college itself is that " the education for life and education for living".

Entrance Preview

I was selected through Interview. I scored well in the interview. I chose this college because of its student-friendly atmosphere and the excellence of the teaching faculty there. Moreover, Amrita has a huge reputation for being good at academics and research.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

It was good in case of academics, but little bit huge compared to other government universities in Kerala. We learned the history of English literature and became familiar with all the writers who wrote in English down the ages. We have gone through all the branches of English literature like American literature, African literature...etc.

Internships Opportunities

Actually, the college provides internships. But we could not make the complete use of that opportunity because of some technical and administrative issues.

Placement Experience

3

We have a fully functioning placement cell which has connections with top job providers in the nation and abroad. Many of the students got great campus placements in top companies with fancy salary. But I did not apply for campus placements as I had other plans in mind.

College Events

3.5

The most celebrated event of the college is the birthday of Sri Mata Amrithanandamayi Devi, the patron and Chancellor of our college which we call Amma's birthday. It is usually celebrated on our campus because the Ashram of Amrithanandamayi Devi or Amma as we call her is very near to our campus. Her birthday is on September 26. Vidyut, the tech show of our technology students, AmritaKalotsavam or Arts day, Ugadi, Campus Day, Deepavali, Onam....etc are the other events celebrated in the college.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is really expensive compared to other colleges in Kerala. But I would say it is worth it because of the quality education there. It costs around 2 lakhs per year for an Integrated MA student staying in hostel including the hostel fee.

Campus Life

5

We have a pretty good campus life. But the uniform which is very useful one way actually makes it colourless. Our college has a pretty strict students affairs department. But we had enough fun on the campus. We have a good number of events to celebrate. We have a lot of extracurricular activities in college like sports, arts and music. We have talk shows, debates, radio... etc on our campus.

Hostel Facilities

3

Our mess food is strictly vegetarian with a strictly followed menu. The food items are nutritious and healthy, but we will get tired of the monotonous menu. The cost is pretty high. Though we get a lot of dishes, I can not say it worth it when the delicacy is concerned.

Alumni/Alumna

Our campus generally has a good network of alumni which is very helpful to find more about the prospects and scopes of the courses in our college.

Exam Structure

We have semester system with end semester exams. Each semester is around five months long. Within each semester we have two internal exams which we call periodicals. They are of 50 marks with 2 hours exam time. The maximum score of our end semester exam is a 100 marks with the duration of three hours.

Admission

The application was offline.I sent the completed application form along with the DD of the application fee in the post. Then I received the call letter for interview. I was selected for the course by the interview panel which included Principal, Head of the Department and a few senior teachers.

Faculty

3.5

Teachers were very qualified. They were very accessible and always looked forward to helping their students. They catered to and fueled our interest in English literature. We became experts in English literature under their guidance. Apart from academics, they were so morally supportive.

The curriculum is suitable for the modern age of teaching, the way of education is well balanced with projects, assignments, presentations and also notes .we have reading assignments where the faculty members ask us to read an entire book and give our review on it.the exams are quiet moderate and in my opinion teachers should use more ai tools as a learning aid which will be more effective for the students

Placement Experience:

From the last semester pass out we a re eligible for the campus recruitment for job or placement. So many companies visit us for the interview or some checking like , hero honda , maruti suzuki etc. the main reason for it was a low amount of budget is that get from this placement maybe 15 thousand let month ect. Only the company can take the students for it so the percentage of the students who getting placement will change in every year. My plan was to get an admission in the central government University for doing master of degree in History. And try the best exam called upsc.

Reviewed on Mar 27, 2024(Enrolled 2020)

Course Curriculum Overview:

There are many aspects of the curriculum that infulenced my decision to choose BA English Literature in St. Berchmans College. Their syllabus is far more challenging and interesting than what other colleges and universities offer in Kerala. The examinations and overall assessment of projects and grades are top-tier and is comparatively difficult to obtain. The course steadily provides good quality information and knowledge on English Litearture and readies the student to be more than qualified for further studies in English Literature or any related courses. The areas where they can improve in the course curriculum is through availing more optional courses such as various other language courses/philosophy related courses to be selected. Their teaching environment can also be improved by improving basic infrastructure in the classrooms such as airflow etc. They conduct their exams freequently and on time. The examinations are challenging but necessary for overall improvement in students
