Remarks
I would say that even with its many shortcomings like a small campus and par placements, it provides for a wholesome college experience with plenty of opportunities for those who want them and none for those who don't want them. The library, the canteen and auditorium are the major plus points and with installation of lifts in each block the standard has only gone up.
Entrance Preview
I took JEE mains, JEE advance, and IPU-CET. I got a rank of 31000 in mains and 11000 in advance. I had a rank of 2000 in CET. Although my first preference was USIT, my rank offered me an opportunity to join the second best college for males under IPU. I chose it over other out of Delhi colleges because of the location advantage that it provides!
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is rather straightforward with common subjects for all the streams in the first year. From the second year, each stream has their own block and the coursework gets separated according to your preference with an option for the topper of the 1st semester to upgrade to another stream. In the final year, you have to make a project and can have your paper published rather easily if in contact with the right faculty members. There was no option to choose elective during the final semester for our batch and electives were pre-selected. You will have plenty of opportunities to participate in various conferences and competitions.
Internships Opportunities
There is no official internship season and no companies are formally invited to provide internships to students. Although the college helps the students in pursuing various courses during the 2 months and a few alumni run startup do hire intern although without any stipend. Most people have to look for an internship on their own and usually without any stipend.
Placement Experience
The placements have always been strictly average up until the last batch with most of the students placed. But this time around the scenario changed drastically due to the downturn in the IT landscape in India and hence the mass recruiters(infosys&accenture) who recruited over 600 candidates last year, only recruited 320-330 students leaving a huge gap in the middle. If you are from one of the core branches (CSE/IT/ECE) you will have plenty of opportunities in good firms like EY/Paytm/urbanclap/ION/MuSigma with the highest package being 10LPA and most of the other offering around 4-5 LPA. Companies like ZS hire from all the branches and offer somewhere around 6 LPA. Mass recruiters have a pay package of around 3.4-3.5LPA.
College Events
Although I haven't attended many events in college I have a fair bit of idea about them. The technical and cultural festivals happened as a single fest with the name tech surge and mridang. There are plenty of events and everyone is free to participate and/or organise such events. They happen at a moderate scale and usually have a known personality performing on the star night int he auditorium. There is also the sports day where you can participate in plenty of sporting events like cricket, running, chess etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Although the fee structure has changed for the new batches coming in due to higher expenditure on college infrastructure, the fee structure for our batch was okay with no increase in fees over the years. You have to pay one year's fee at a time which was around Rs. 97K for our batch and had to pay in the month of August. It can be a bit expensive when compared to other govt. colleges of similar stature.
Fees and Financial Aid
Although the college didn't provide me with any scholarship but I know o students who were awarded technicals goodies strictly on the meritorious basis. Loans can be taken by students and there is the branch of a bank within the premises but the college doesn't provide any support in taking a loan.
Campus Life
I met students from different walks of life. Ranging from a friend from a village in Bihar who plans to go back to his farms and do something good to a friend who has well-off parents. The batch is rather diverse in terms of their background. But gender diversity is very poor in the mechanical branch to which I belong with just 3 girls in a batch of 180. The case is similar in the first CSE batch, 2 girls in a batch of 60. Apart from these streams, the gender diversity is good with at least 30-35% girls in the batch. The college life is good with plenty of places to eat and hang out nearby. Also, just a 20 min auto ride away is adventure island. There are opportunities like robotics competitions, BAJA (the automotive club), Drama society. I was part of the college cricket team which not well supported by the college.
Hostel Facilities
Although I didn't stay in a hostel, since the hostel was within the premises, I know a bit about it. The hostel has limited seats and not enough to accommodate all the students. It is an all males hostel and no provision for girls to stay within the premises. It has rooms with single, double and quadruple occupancy options. The mess food as per my friends is strictly average and we also have a common room and gym for the students. Most students tend to take PGs outside the college which is readily available.
Alumni/Alumna
As far as my scenario is concerned, I haven't been in contact with any of my seniors or juniors and also know of no officially maintained alumni database that the college has. From what I have seen, our college alumni are working in good places and are doing well in life. Seniors are really helpful if you have an understanding with them as many of my friends did.
Exam Structure
I would say that exam structure is not all that hectic for the new batch as internals have been reduced to 1 while our batch was the last one to have 2 internal exams so the pressure is not really high. Usually the last 2 months get a bit hectic with all the practicals and end term examinations being crammed in those 2 months but nothing an engineering grad can't handle. Apart from that the labs are not at all hectic and provide an easy understanding of concepts with mostly just 1 lab a day.
Admission
The notification usually comes out in March or April. I had to fill the preference of college while filling up the form for the CET exam. Once the form has been filled and the rankings are out, we were allotted colleges and courses according to our preference order and I got my 3rd preference in the first list and didn't sit for any other counselling sessions. Post that, we had to personally submit all the documents at the institute and also pay the first instalment of the fees.
Faculty
The faculty I would say is rather good and knowledgeable. Although there is this problem of hiring retired faculty who tend to be inefficient at conveying their knowledge although they are really well informed. If you are willing to work hard the faculty is will to stand by you, push you and help you in any way possible. Our project mentor really helped us push for a research paper even after the session was over.
