Course Curriculum Overview
I have taken Mechanical Engineering course here which is one of the best branch to study here with all the equipment and labs and decent placemens, Course curriculum is quite strict here academics are followed strictly research is heavily focused and all the faculty members are highly qualified and have done some commendable research in their fields, There is a healthy ratio of students to teacher and all of them are highly supportive. Terms exam is of moderate level and are taken timely, Each semester has two term exams one mid term and one end term exam.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities are offered to each branch, the stipend and overall internship opportunities are very high in circuital branches and decent in core branches, Companies like Microsoft, Amazon offer very good internship opportunities some analytics companies such as PWC also offer internship.
Placement Experience
Generally after 6th semester students become eligible for placement however there are various internship thata re offered to other students too at sooner levels. Companies such as Microsoft and Amazon visits regularly and hires students from Circuital branches, lot of core companies also visit such as Tata Steel, JSW, Vedanda and also lot of analytics compaovisit such as PWC who recruit in masses. From the department of Mechanical engineering 85.88% students were placed in 2023, with median CTC being 8.9 LPA and highest CTC of 15LPA. I personally plan on doing Higher studies after I get the degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
Considering a General category student with family income more than 5 lakhs, you will get no fee waiver you will have to pay 62500 per semester for tuition fees 8500 for college fees and 29500 for Hostel fee if you avail hostel, per semester. However Students with family income less than 5LPA will get huge fee waivers, income between 1 to 5 lakhs per annum will get a 70% waiver and those whose income is below 1LPA will get 100% tuition fee waiver and will only have to pay mess fee and some other expenses.
Campus Life
There are many fun events and fests that are held here annually the main fest is called REBECA which is held around month of February in which various professional artists are invited other than that we have Tech fests such as Instruo, Robocon and fun fests such as nerdcon and various cultural events are organised by our institute. Sports event are also held such as Cricket, Basketball and Football events are held on regular intervals at various levels , inter department, inter hostel events are common. There are various clubs that function inside this institute such As Robodarshan for robotics, Reflexobeta for dance, Euphony for Music and various other clubs.
Hostel Facilities
There is sufficient hostels for students, Mainly first year students are allotted in 4 hostels , 3 for boys and 1 girls hostel. Each boys hostel room accomodates 4 Students and each student is provided with a bed a locker and there is enough bathrooms for students on each floor also there is washing machine available at each floor. Food is Generally good, there is a mess managing committee formed by students in each hostel who oversees the mess routine and expenses. Hostel expenses are 29500 per semester and mostly all the students get hostel allotted however if someone wants there are some good PGs in locality and are quite affordable.
Admission
To get into IIEST you have to qualify JEE mains exam with a Good percentile, the qualifying Criteria for this year to get into Mechanical engineering was around 46000 rank for general male candidates and 54000 for OBC candidates including CSAB rounds. The total fee you have to pay during admission process is the fee you pay during josaa councelling and CSAB councelling totalling to 80000. Admission process is quite simple you'll be provided with a list of documents you need to submit you'll have enough time to gather those. Overall admission process is smooth and authorities are quite helpful.
Other Applied Colleges
National Institute of Technology - [NITP] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Mechanical Engineering)
According to NIRF and placement statistics and also if we consider research and higher studies opportunity IIEST shibpur is far ahead than NITP in these fields hence I preferred IIEST shibpur.
