Course Curriculum Overview
I just received mechanical according to my rank, so there was no logic behind my choice, and another reason was to hustle in my life and simultaneously be away from my home, which is a challenge. Since my first year was online, in online classes on MS Teams, we had one teacher for 120+ students. The second year was offline for me, where one teacher for 139 students was present. In my third year, it came down to 70:1 since my branch students were divided into two sections to understand the concept better. Most of our teachers are IIT Mtechs and Btechs from renowned colleges, and they have vast knowledge about their subjects. The only problem is that some teachers can convey their content efficiently, and some struggle in doing so. The exams occur two times a semester with a gap of two months in between, and the difficulty for most exams is moderate level if you prepare well and for some subjects, it is nothing below complex.
Internships Opportunities
Microsoft (two months) - 125000 for one month Texas (two months) - 100000 for one month Tata Steel (two months) - 40000 for one month Bajaj (two months) - 29500 for one month ITC (two months) - 50000 for one month Trident (two months) - 50000 for one month There's a long list of companies, but not all can be mentioned due to the word limit. I have still not been selected for an internship, and hopefully, I will get one in the upcoming months.
Placement Experience
The students are eligible for Internship opportunities from the 5th semester (starting of the 3rd year). The students are eligible for On-Campus placement opportunities from the 7th semester (beginning of the 4th year). The percentage of students getting placed varies from branch to branch, but it is above 90% of the total batch for most branches. And the other 10% mostly opt for higher studies and competitive exams. All big companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle, Tata Steel, Bajaj, TVS, Texas and others visit our campus annually. I plan to go for placements after getting the degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees include tuition, hostel, mess, student activity, and medical fees. There are many provisions for students with reservations and income certificates, and the fee they pay is observed to be less than what the general candidates pay for the same semester. Studying is pretty much affordable for students from a decent middle-class household. I'm in my third year of Btech, so I can't sit for jobs currently, but I will be able to do so once I'm in my 4th year of graduation.
Campus Life
Campus life is the best if you compare it with other engineering colleges since you can reside in a vast, lush green campus. There is a library which has most of the books, and classrooms are decent but can be made more advanced (like some classes contain smart boards while some do not). Sports is something which our college prioritises as we have a football ground, cricket ground, kho-kho ground, kabaddi ground, volleyball ground, swimming, badminton, loan tennis and table tennis facilities are available as well. We even have our sports fest, VRIDDHI, from October to November. INNOVISION is the techfest, Nitrutsav is the cultural fest. The best of them is COSMOPOLITAN, which is in-house and represents the diverse cultures and ethnicities the students belong to. For more info on COSMOPOLITAN, you may follow on Instagram cosmo.nitr. We even have many clubs the students may get inducted into according to their interests. One such club is ASTRONITR. To follow on Instagram: astro_nitr.
Hostel Facilities
Room is enough for a single resident, but two are allotted one room, so we have to live with sharing and caring. The room is manageable most of the time. Before residing, a bed, a chair and a table are provided to both residents. The mess includes food four times a day, and the quality is edible for most days. Some days, it is not manageable, so we have alternate canteens to eat, which are affordable. After admission, you are allotted a hostel and must show up. The registration process is easy. If you are unsatisfied with the hostel, you can even change the room or hostel, which is an easy process.
Admission
For admission to any NIT, the government conducts the JEE Mains exams for the students who are currently at the 12th standard or have dropped after completing the 12th standard to crack the exam. Here, the students get to choose their branch on a percentile, and the rank they get is according to your percentile basis. The admission is handled by JOSAA and CSAB jointly. For JEE mains, you need to fill out the application, which is out on NTA's website once the exams are nearing. After receiving your results, you get to sit for JOSAA counselling, where you choose branches and colleges according to your priority. Still, you get them according to your rank (which depends on your percentile score) in the JEE Mains. Since I am from the general category, I do not know much about the reservations. The admission process is good now; any student can easily comprehend it.
