Course Curriculum Overview
I was keenly interested in learning the principles and mechanics behind machines and what mechanisms are used in them, so I chose mechanical engineering as a profession. Faculty: student ratio differs from branch to branch, for mechanical it is 1:68 as there are 2 sections All faculty members are well qualified, there's no doubt about their knowledge and skills, their behaviour towards their students is what matters for me the most. Generally, END SEM exams are done just before the holidays, exams are moderately easy to pass but to get a good grade you have to suffer some sleepless nights.
Internships Opportunities
In mechanical, companies like TATA Steel, Saint-Gobain, Bajaj, John Deere, trident, ITC, etc. visit the campus for internship programs, each company organises an Online test to check the abilities of the students
Placement Experience
After the completion of 6th semester, you are eligible to sit in placements, On average approx. 350 companies visit the campus every year, correct data can be found on college's official website. Amazon gives the highest package of 53 lakhs per annum.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is generally the same for all 4 years, sometimes there's a hike in hostel fees which is negligible. But there are many scholarships you can apply for which is a benefit for studying in an institute of national importance that can get you scholarships easily.
Campus Life
Innovission, Cosmopolitan, Nitrutsav, and Vriddhi are different fests held at NIT Rourkela over the year. Generally, books are Biju Pattnaik Library which is spread over a large area. The classrooms are very well-designed and big.
Hostel Facilities
There are 11-12 hostels on campus, every student is provided with a double sharing room. Every floor in hostels has bathrooms and toilets of Indian style. The food quality is comparatively average, you will take time to get used to it.
Admission
Admission to NIT Rourkela was based on JEE Mains percentile score, the lowest cut-off for being in college was around AIR-30000-40000 which varies from year to year. The whole admission application procedure was relatively straightforward, thanks to the online portal which guided me on each step. The application form, fees, and important dates were shown on the JosAA CSAB websites. Reservation for seats in NIT Rourkela was based on caste system and home state quota
