IIEST- An Institute as old as time.

I decided to take a computer science course and at my rank, I got a seat in the Department of Information Technology in IIEST Shibpur. There are a total of 11 professors in this department all are highly qualified, and almost all of them have Ph.D.The ratio to be specific is 1:9, here I am talking about professors, there is a team of teaching staff at the backend of professors making the teaching and learning process viable. The exams are conducted regularly. The theoretical assessment consists of 100 marks for each subject, out of which midsemester holds 30,end-semester holds 50, and the rest 20 accounts for internal assessments, which include assignments, class tests, and quizzes. All the examinations can be aced if one is regular in academics.

Amazon India offered internships to 3 students from the batch of 2025 as software developer interns. Accenture - intern selects, selected 9 students from the batch of 2025. Bank of New York Mellon selected 9 students from the batch of 2025 as software developer interns.PWC selected 13 students from the batch of 2025 as engineering associate interns. Deutsche Bank offered internships to 5 students from the batch of 2025 as Graduate Analyst Intern. Tata Steel Limited offered internships to 6 students from the batch of 2025. Texas Instruments offered internships to the 10 students from the batch of 2025 as analog /digital /embedded software interns. Microsoft offered internships to 3 students from the batch of 2025 as software engineer interns. There are various opportunities offered off campus as well.

Student can sit for the placements in their final years. Microsoft offered 45 lakhs per annum to 9 students from the batch of 2023(PPO).INR 28 lakhs per annum was offered to 5 students by Texas Instruments from the batch of 2023. INR 26 lakhs was offered to 4 students by Atlassian.INR 22 lakhs were offered to 6 students by Wells Fargo. Accenture gave 17 offers of 11 lakhs each to the students from the batch of 2023. Amazon India made 4 offers of 12 lakhs each. The highest package offered to the batch of 2023 (on campus) was INR 51 by Microsoft. PWC offered PPO to 9 students from the batch of 2024.Google offered PPO to 2 students from the batch of 2024.ICICI Bank offered 13 students from the batch of 2024.The placement percentage of Computer science and Information Technology is more than 93 percent every year.Students get offer from almost all prominent companies.

The current fee stands at INR65000 per semester for a general student and pupils having some reservation benefits pay even less than INR 10000 per semester. Apart from this, there are scholarship schemes also available like one offered by the alumni community, GABESSU, and one can apply for all the scholarship schemes that come to them. Although fee waivers are already there by the central government for those who can't afford the cost of education in the institute.

The college provides a busy academic year not only filled with tests and exams but also with co-curricular activities and extra-curricular activities. There is an annual fest, the oldest of all annual fests, The REBECA, and the technical fest INSTRUO, there is a fest organized by almost every department, like 'REVELATION' by the Department of Computer Science and Technology,'SPHURAN' by the department of electrical engineering. There is a centralized library, Ramanujan Library which holds all the books that one looks for including academics and personal growth, and one can spend all day over there till midnight. Apart from knowledge flooding in the library, there are classrooms, fully ventilated, equipped with digital class facilities and come equipped with air conditioners as well (come to the college and see, which branch has got AC classrooms.)The college has got all the sports facilities like basketball, football, cricket, badminton, etc. There are more than 36 clubs and societies.

The rooms for all the undergrads are shared by 4 students apart from the final-year students, they get single rooms. The food quality is not so good not so bad in the first year, but year after year the food quality improves, in other words, it all depends on the management capability of the students, if the mess manager can manage the mess finance, then there is no doubt that food quality is up to the mark. Mess includes both non-veg and veg meals and the menu is decided by the mess manager for the day. Those whose official residence is more than 100 km away get the hostel facility if they want, the local students prefer to be day scholars. Hostels cost around INR 29,500 at the time of admission and then the following semester it cost around INR 24,500.

JEE(MAINS) is conducted annually to take admission into the NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.IIEST Shibpur comes under the NIT category. So, admission into this institute is through the same examination, the notification of which comes in the later part of the year, mentioning all the information needed including examination fees. In 2022, the examination fee was around 650 per session, and examinations are conducted twice, first in January and the next in April under normal circumstances. After the results are out, JOSSA counseling happens and seats are allotted to the respective course in the respective institution based on the All India Rank secured by the candidates and other reservation quotas available. The admission process is smooth and improvements are made every year to make it more viable.
