Remarks

The campus is certainly very beautiful. Nestled amongst the hills, NIT Rourkela boasts of a lush green campus, strong student strength of more than 5000 and an overall campus area of about 1024 acres (2nd largest campus in India, behind IIT Kharagpur). The campus is indeed wonderful and the stay here is worth remembering.

Entrance Preview

Selection procedure for NITR is through JEE Mains. Students need to give JEE Mains and depending on their ranks acquired in it...admission is provided. No separate interviews are conducted.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I chose electronics and communication engineering as my subject. It is a subject which is in quite demand. Electronics demands the student to be quite strong in mathematics and be practical oriented. Students who like physics rather than chemistry will be much more attracted towards it. We had two product development laboratories and a lot of lab courses which are practical oriented.

Internships Opportunities

I personally didn't get an internship on campus but generally companies which come for recruitment drive take students for internship also. I did my internship in IIT Guwahati and it was a nice experience with all their facilities. The average stipend that the students get is 10-15 k per month for a period of two months.

Placement Experience

3.5

Almost all the students except those who have a lot of backlogs get placed. So around 95% students have a job offer before they pass out from here. Companies recruit according to the branch. Some branches like CSE have very good placement scenario and companies like Microsoft, Amazon, c-dot, GS, Oracle, Qualcomm visit the campus every year whereas some other branch students like metallurgy and mining are more or less placed in analytics company and consultancies like IBM, Accenture, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant. Average package varies according to the branch you are in. For CSE it lies around 12-13 lacs and for the rest it is around 5-6 lacs.

College Events

4.5

There are many fests being organised in NITR. We have Innovision - the technical fest, Multiethnic festival, NU (Nitrutsav), ISM (International Students Meet) and Celebrity Night among the cultural fests. Fests are organised and planned properly and they are quite big. Celebrities like Sunidhi Chauhan and Sonu Nigam were also invited for the celebrity night.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is generally 65-67 k per semester including the mess fee and hostel rent. Students can avail bank loans to pay the fee also.

Campus Life

4.5

There are ample opportunities for one to discover and develop oneself in the field of extracurricular activities. More than 70 clubs operate and organise workshops and events in which interested students can take part in. From robotics to painting, automobile designing to dancing, debating to cooking, not to forget singing, the clubs offer a wide range of interests the students can choose from and explore their hobbies more.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

NITR has 2 girls hostels, 8 boys hostels and one married hostel for married scholars housing all of its students. It is a completely residential campus. Rooms are allocated on sharing basis, generally double seater rooms are given. Fourth years and post graduation students are given single rooms. Quality of food is quite good.

Exam Structure

Exams and daily schedule of NITR is quite hectic.Classes start at as early as 8 in the morning and might continue upto 6:15 in the evening if you end up having an extra class. There are both lab and theory classes to be attended in a day. We have two exams conducted in a semester...mid sem and end sem of 30 and 50 marks each plus internal assessment of 20 marks. So all in all it becomes quite tiring from the student perspective.

Faculty

4

Faculty here are very experienced and highly qualified. As for interaction with students, varies from professor to professor. Some of them are very interactive and even know about their students' backgrounds while others may not even know you are in their class.

Placement Experience:

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
