Remarks
Overall, my experience with the college has been filled with various ups and downs. I would give my campus life, a score of, 8 out of 10. Well, some of the problems are: They don't give many holidays. Even durung strikes we don't get any holidays. Attendance requiremet is 85 % which is extremely tough to manage.
Entrance Preview
There was no separate entrance exam as such, however, I had to give an interview to get admission in the college. I was asked to submit report cards of my 10th and 11th standard apart from some other basic documents like transfer certificate, character certificate etc. The admission gets confirmed within a day I always wanted to move out of Delhi, and I had heard about Christ University so I filled it up along with the form of other universities and finally decided Christ University after asking around few people. I always loved chemistry in school and so I chose this course.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is good. Focus on practical learning was up to the mark. Our college organizes a lot of Seminars for students to meet influential people and decide more about their careers. Our department offers more various electives like Human Resource Management, Sociology etc to name a few. All in all, I can say, there are open electives related to all the courses and proper information about the electives is given before asking students to choose their subjects.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, the college provides internships, but students prefer doing internship outside college. Within the college, its just limited environment but when one applies for internships outside the college, they get to face the real-life problems and so they get a good exposure. I myself have never done internship from college. Teachers are supportive if students need help for their internship work.
Placement Experience
Sitting for placements is not mandatory for my course. Interested students are allowed to apply for placement but with just an undergraduate degree in BSc., one cannot get a good job. Doing a post graduate course is sort of necessary and one is doing BSc and so most of the students of my department do not apply for placements and focus on higher education. Placement in other courses like MBA, BCom,BBA, MCA, BCA etc is quite high as it is commerce and arts related fields.
College Events
There are so many events like Darpan, Inblooms, Blossoms, Spirit, Jeevotsav and the list is endless. I know only this much because I am not that very social. College authorities contribute the maximum to make the event big. Students effort makes everything possible along with coordination from the authorities. It is also manadatory to participate in atleast one event for the department fests, otherwise serious action will be taken against the student. This mandatory participation ensures that everyone is getting atleast some change of environement.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Before searching the fee section of the college, I thought that the fee must be in lakhs because the college is in Bangalore and Christ University had a good name. However, when I read the fee structure of my course, I was shocked. It was just Rs. 15000 per annum. Just this much fee for an undergraduate fee is obviously affordable. I had to pay Rs. 30000 in the first year but in second and third year, it is Rs. 15000/year. The fee structure is not at all expensive when compared to the quality of education a student gets here.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarship is given only for the top three students. I didn't avail any as I have never come under top 3. I don't know if the college has helped in getting loan to students. There are approximately 15,000 students in my university, including different PG, UG and PhD courses.
Campus Life
There are lot of opportunities to showcase our talents. Intercollege fests, dance events, sports events including Chrispo, Darpan,Inblooms, Blossoms,Jeevotsav, Interferance etc. There are so many clubs to count for the holistic growth of a student. Overall, ample oppurtunities are there for those who are interested.
Hostel Facilities
There are many hostels inside the campus and many PGs outside the campus. The hostel I stay in, has no single rooms. We only have double, triple and quadruple sharing rooms here. I pay Rs. 3800 every month for the food and I don't know about the hostel fee as I never discussed payment structure with my family for the hostel. Most of the time, we get South Indian food and it is not very appetizing.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes, the college provides interaction with the alumni once in a year. They don't give much attention to the alumnis according to my observation. I don't think alumni contribute to the overall development of the college
Exam Structure
The exam schedule of the college is not that hectic. Our 1 year is divided in 2 semester and each semster has 2 exams, namely Mid semster exams and End semester exams. There are fixed date slots for the exams and it is announced in advance and so students are mentally perpared. We do get good time between two exams and so the exam time is not at all hectic. Apart from that we are continously evaluated through the semster by means of assignments, projects etc. At the times, I feel depressed because the workload takes over my mind but I think that is expected of any science related course.
Faculty
A college's name is built because of its teachers and certainly, it is true. All the professors of my departments are PhD scholars. They are quite experienced and are strict too. Personally, I feel that the interaction of the professors with students, is not upto the mark. Some teachers are very student-friendly and some are not so the quality of faculty varies. Many teachers take interest in teaching their subject and so it becomes easy to understand those subjects.
