What Students Say
Likes
- I liked almost everything that NITR had to offer. Everything but the food. I liked the huge, peaceful campus. The diverse group of friends I made. The amazing fests. The hackathons. The club culture.
- Seniors are very helpful, they'll help you with any and everything you need. Just be respectful and bam, now you have good seniors.
- The view of the mountains around the campus that you get from the hostel terrace is just amazing
Dislikes
- The food in general lacked spice. I lost around 16 kgs in the first sem only.
- The grading was very hard for some reason. Getting a good CG is actually hard and requires consistent efforts.
- The summers are ruthless. Doing anything seems impossible with air conditioning.
Course Curriculum Overview
Btech in Industrial design is a very underrated course. I didn't have much idea about it when I was applying for it. But the work load is comparatively less. The curriculum is Design oriented as well as inclines towards practical engineering solutions. Designing solutions of actual real life problems. Faculty is one the best in the country, a lot of research is going on at all times. Since the batch size is small, the faculty: student ratio is very good... 1:36 Most of the professors are from IITs or had done masters from abroad. Teaching methods range from presentations to practical projects and activities. We have 2 exams in a semester, the mid sems and the end sems. Both are connected timely. It was not too hard to pass these exams, but scoring good was tough.
Internships Opportunities
You'll get a lot of internship oppertunities in the college. From 3rd year, you'll be eligible to apply for them. You can go for research internships in various IITs or apply for some industry level internship.
Placement Experience
Placements are pretty good. All the branches perform excellent in that matter. The average is around 20lpa for cs, 17-18 for Circuital branches, 14lpa for my branch i.e Industrial Design and around 11-12 lpa for the rest. The students go for software, consultancy , data analytics and core jobs. Visa, MasterCard, Microsoft... they all visit our campus... 100% of the students get placed. After getting my degree I'm hoping to work as a product designer for a few years and then I'll think about masters.
Fees and Financial Aid
The admission fee, including the 1st year fee was about 1 lakh. 2nd sem onwards the fee was around 90k. Tution fee is around 60k. Fee waiver is available based on the income level of the students family (income certificate is required). Fee hike is not that much high and generally seen in the mess fee section. You get a lot of state and central scholarships here and for financial assistance, you can get SBI scholar loan very easily from the bank in the campus.
Campus Life
Campus life is absolutely the best part of the college. A lot of diversity.. a lot of students from the middle east, Nepal and even Nigeria!! The absolute huge campus has everything you'll need from banks, canteens ... a swimming pool , yes... even a swimming pool. The tech fest, Innovision is conducted around November and the annual cultural fest, Cosmo is conducted in January... both are absolute hits with fun activities, good food and music. You'll find all the books you need in the library. Smart classrooms are present with air conditioning (Rourkela is hot, summers are almost unbearable without air conditioning). Sports culture is excellent. Every hostel has badminton courts and some even have basketball courts. Indoor games are also present. The students run a lot of clubs(almost 60), communitie(like the Google Developer Students Club), media body( Monday Morning ).
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facility is pretty good. You get a shared room to share with your roomie. Rooms are tidy and sufficient for 2 people, but honestly you'll have around 10 people in your room if you're social or you might just prefer to stay in the hostel's air conditioned comfy study rooms. The hostel are huge. We created an algorithm to navigate through the halls, or we would have simply got lost in that maze of a hostel. The hostels are cleaned almost daily, with weekly room cleaning service. You get 2 beds, 2 study tables and 2 chairs in your room(have to share with the roomie).Shelves are there to keep your stuff. Mess food is average for the most part but we have a pure veg mess here that servers pretty good food. There's no point in lying, you'll miss your mom's cooking a lot. But, you'll survive. Hostels are pretty affordable... costs around 5k per semester.
Admission
The admission process was pretty straightforward. I gave JEE Main, got 96 percentile. Applied for the college through Josaa. The application form is available on NTA's website and costed about 700. Exam schedules vary every year but generally is scheduled around January.
Other Applied Colleges
