Remarks

The college experience has not been good up till now. Academics are good, although they do strain upon it too much, but, still, the results aren't that appealing. Some of the teachers are aloof and disinterested but some are really good. So it brings the teaching standards to only above average. They have all the facilities but utilization of these aren't up to the mark. The college management could do better by taking assessments from students. I didn't enjoyed college as I thought it might be.

Entrance Preview

Delhi University doesn't conduct entrance examinations for most of its courses including mine, B.Com(Hons.). They do not host any interviews or screening for the admissions. Hence like every other applicants, I got admission by applying online on the DU admissions portal as I fulfilled the only requirement of having marks above the cutoff in the 12th board examinations. I had opted for commerce stream in my senior schooling years and ever since then I wanted to pursue B.Com. Also DU being one of the esteemed universities in India, and I had heard a lot about it from friends and family over the years, I had all the more reason to choose this course from a college under DU, so I finally landed up here.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The Course Curriculum is well designed by the university, but the only problem is in its implementation in our college. The teaching staff doesn't take the burden to teach the subjects practically, rather they just dig into the theoretical context immensely. So most often we just learn what is in the text rather than understanding the applications of these topics. I think it is a major fault considering we are studying commerce. I am not fully aware of Research works going on in my college, but I believe there must be a plenty as DU is a deemed university of India. Yes, we have electives relating to pure core subjects in the second and third year of graduation.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, there are some internship fairs conducted in the college. But all the companies that come in are mostly startups offering no stipend. There are no internships available within the campus as part of research projects or anything. Other internships are all outside the college and we are supposed to find them ourselves. They are better because more than often we have stipends.

Placement Experience

1.5

Placement scenario is the most demeaning part of this college, which compared to other colleges under Delhi University is very poor. They don't care much about the future of their students. There are only very few companies that come for recruitment. Some of these are start-ups themselves, so it doesn't provide us students with the needed exposure or a good salary. Only a fraction of students who apply get good placements in the first place. So eventually, many of us settle for outside campus opportunities instead.

College Events

1.5

Events aren't frequent as they should be, let it be any kind of event whether cultural or managerial or technical. Once in, like, 2 months, is what is the frequency of any event and that too not that good. There is Ethnic Day and the Annual College Day to name a few. The college does organise the events themselves. We have funds allotted from the college end for these programs. The university strictly asks for a certain number of events every year so thats what the college does. Other than that the society culture of my college like all other DU colleges is pretty strong, and their events and workshops happen often.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees is a really affordable matter in all DU courses as it is not at all expensive. It aims at providing good quality education with only moderate fee amounts that everyone can afford. Fees for B.Com Hons amounted to only Rs. 10000 a year. There are no hidden charges or donation fees. Those who stay in hostels will have to pay extra for that as the figures mentioned before covers only the academic fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

No, college doesn't provide any scholarships. Students are supposed find the scholarships or funding on their own. The college does not arrange for loans either, mostly because only very few students actually require loans with such low fees.

Campus Life

4

Extracurricular activities are abundant, but the opportunities provided is the main problem. The facilities are too good. The daily schedule is always full with classes, assignments and project works. We usually don't get enough time to pursue other interests most of the time. It is a full stop for all the aspirants for such Extracurricular activities or a matter of putting grades and academic performance at stake.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

No, I don't stay in a hostel or a PG. But I do have friends who stay in hostels. From what I heard from those hostellers is that the hostels are pretty good. The rooms are a choice between single or double sharing. They are well furnished with a study table for each student. The food is average but lacking variety, it gets a bit tiring to eat the same dishes over and over throughout graduation. There are PGs outside campus and some of the students prefer living there. I don't know about the rates there of the food provided.

Alumni/Alumna

Once in a year, there is an Alumni Meet conducted by the college and preparations are made at length each time to host them heartily. There is not much of Alumni-College relationship otherwise. The meetings are nice but they do not help the students in any way or in the college overall development. A strengthened and deeper student-alumni interaction will help bring better benefits I believe.

Exam Structure

Exams aren't frequent in our college. We do have both internal exam and end semester examinations and they are all regular throughout each semester but it does not tire one out. There is a certain pressure to perform well but I think it happens all the time to students in general. Whereas to be in the notion that graduation from DU will not be hectic, would be absolutely wrong. The number of assignments and submissions we get was just a little more than normal days, making college often stressful.

Faculty

3

Faculty is well qualified, but is not as interactive as one might expect from the college teachers. Some teachers do interact, but that is only a small proportion out of the lot. Most of the teachers are not at all bothered about their subjects. I found the attitude really discouraging. Sometimes, even when we genuinely want to approach them for clarifications, they might blow us off. The few who are interactive are good enough but they cannot make up for others. So on a scale of one to ten, ten implying worst, I would rate the faculty at a six.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Well i choose this course because I didn't got what I wanted. Many students are from arts background who got this course because they had no option. The curriculum is same as school all chapters and everything. The law section is new. About buisness and law and everything. Rest is same. Changes in curriculum is not in their hands. But if they could actually change the accounting syllabus. The timing of exams is normal 2:30 to 6:30. And internal test taken by perspective teacher are according to their time and class. They will take retest incase you didn't attended.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I really was interested in finance and taxation from the beginning. This course aligned rightly with my interests. The curriculum is based on real world applications. Corporate accounting, financial accounting, company law, human resource management, these are very important considering change in the job market and business world. Not only real world applications but one can also go for further academic pursuit such as a master's degree and research. This makes the curriculum really diverse. Some areas of suggestions would be that in theory subjects there should be practical activities. Just like vestibular training. The time of exams is just right. After the completion of syllabus of a particular subject, we are given 10 days of preparation leave. The exams are moderate and it really tests our ability and knowledge based on our studies.

For placements fifth semester student are eligible for placements. Since it is best commerce college. Companies like big 4, google, bank of America, Goldman Sachs, bcg, bain and co., Sbi, paytm, meesho and many more comes. The highest package was 36 LPA this year from meesho for senior analyst roles. Average package is 10 LPA. Most of the placements take place in consulting, marketing, auditing, finance and analyst roles. Around more than 50% of the students get placed. My plan is to take placements in consulting and finance roles after the degree from the college.

The placement of my college is good if you perform well in the process of selection, as I told earlier, the placement cell is pretty active, so you would have a good number of options. I will be naming the good companies that visited my college, they were EY, Deloitte, DE SHAW, TCS, KPMG, etc. Numerous offers were made and I would say over 80% students in my batch got placed in good companies.

At the end of every chapter they provide summaries and mock questions for every chapter to analyse the weakness and strength. the areas for improvements in the Course Curriculum and Teaching Methods--- they should also provide a mock test paper as per the paper model and latest questions or updated topics with to the point topics The difficulty is normal if candidate is completely prepared...
