Remarks
I gave the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination in 2022 and secured 1382 rank in General Category. Then I applied for the online counselling process where I applied for multiple colleges and among them I got Computer Science and Engineering in Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College in my first counselling round. I did not go for further rounds as this was satisfactory for me. Overall the counselling process has three rounds and every department of every college has some rank cutoffs according to which one may be selected or not. The cutoffs are less for SC,ST,OBC,PWD categories.
Course Curriculum Overview
I liked software engineering and so chose this field. The number of female students are comparatively less in engineering field. In our college male-female ratio is almost 10:1. The teachers are helpful and take regular classes. We have two semesters per year and the question papers are quite standard. So it requires a lot of efforts to pass the exam.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements from 7th Semester. Since it is a Tier 3 college, not many companies come for on campus placements. Generally 50-60% of the students get placed from on campus placements although with a low salary. Last year the highest on campus placement was 12LPA. I have planned for opting Masters in Data Science after completing my B.Tech journey.
Fees and Financial Aid
As it is a Government College, the annual fees are less compared to other colleges. There are some scholarships given from Government and also some given by our Alumni Seniors. The on campus placements are low here as it is a Tier 3 college. Highest on campus package is around 4LPA.
Campus Life
Our college conducts one annual fest (JECLAT) and one tech fest (SRISHTI) every year. We get the chance to host as well as participate in multiple competitions. Other than this, our college hosts sports competition once in a year. Our college library has most of our books(except a few). The clubs here are very active. We have technical, hardware based, enterpreneurdship, quiz, dance, singing, drama, photography and multiple other clubs. Our college is also a part of Google Developer Students Club.
