mechaniucal course always been my top priority and interest so i chose the branch of mechanical engineering.. faculty to student ratio is =1:2 there are two semester and two internals for each sem. it is pretty easy to pass....

companies that visit our campus are tata, ericsson , l and t, etc. roles under internships are availed by partnered college such as iitr jodhpur, iit kharagpur for research interns. projects and outcomes to clarify doubts are to be discussed with professors personally they are really helpful in it.

from 6th sem college placements are avilable. comapnies vists are ericsson,tata,l and t,etc. highest placemt-60 lacs, avg placement-7-8 lacs. 99% of students get placed after the placemt period. my plans after getting a degree is to do a high paying job in a good mechanical firm.

Fees and Financial Aid

there is hardly any fees hike bcz it is a state government collge which offers comendable placements.thge cost of study is pretty low around 37000 for 4 years for mechanical engineering. scholarship that are available are svmcm, oasis,etc. there is financial assistance for ews students that is tution fee wavier.for every department there is departmental wise placement stipends are also available bcz college has partnered with various iits for research based interns so stipends are also available .

Campus Life

there are two annual fest namely jeclat(cultural fest), sristi(tech fest) which north bengal's biggest tech fest. books are available in the college main library and another library is under construction.journals are also avilable in the library.... basic amenities are provided in the classroom... sports and extracurricular include differnets sports like cricket,football. annual sports comeptition are held like football tournament where different collge football teams come and participate..... there are different types of clubs such as cfi,div and conquer...

basic facilities are provided in the room , rooms are spacious... meal quality is good menu include chicken,mutton for special occasion,etc registration process will eb mentioned in the college website after youn ahve completed the admission process. there are many pgs and mess avilable near the college locality

you have to aplly for wbjee exam ands get selected with good results then apply for the college. in wbjee website you will find apllication form, and check college website for fees and dates reservation benefits are available admission process is very slow it should be fast and safe

I don't have idea about the placements since I'm in first year now. But I talked to a senior and got to know that many got multiple offers in 4th year. I also head that packages are around 4 lpa which is a decent and also a rise than the previous year.

The summary of my four years in one of the oldest colleges in India

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

It's my decision from class 12 that I will do civil engineering, so I chose the civil branch, the course curriculum is well and the teaching level is good but the main problem is lab, there is very limited classes for lab, so I think they should improve there.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.

Unbiased Review of JGEC

I applied to a few other government engineering colleges but i ended up choosing JGEC.The main reasons: JGEC is a well established,fully government owned autonomous college,with good accreditation.It also has a long history since 1961,which made me trust its academic environment.Compared to other colleges i applied to ,JGEC felt more stable and credible.It also has a reasonable structure and good campus infrastructure,labs and oppurtunities for intership .There is also a good scope for higher studies like GATE.The marks vs rank went extremely high in WBJEE 2025.That's why i didn't get a college i applied for which is near my home. You can take admission by giving WBJEE and JELET only.As it is a government college you can only take admission if you get a good rank .There is also different cut-offs for diff catagory.The overall admission process is was very smooth and systematic....Read More

According to my West Bengal joint entrance examination rank I said for the counselling in the first round I got Kalyani Government Engineering College with IT department but that was with the reservation under EWS quota with rank 2869. As I was not able to get me EWS certificate my admission there was cancelled and then according to my preference I got Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College with electronic and communication engineering department.
