Stepping into the college world

My overall experience is nice . It's not like the one they show in the movies , but you have complete freedom to explore yourself. Except the placement , the University is quite good but there are still room for improvement on which they are working everyday

In order to get admission in SRM UNIVERSITY , one has to write a common entrance exam under the name of SRMJEEE . One has to pay a certain amount of fee in order to enroll themselves. After giving the exams your rank would be revealed to you and on the basis of rank you get the choice to get into your desired stream . No such interview process was followed for admission just the entrance exam alone . As there are not enough reputed colleges in India that offers B.Tech in Chemical engineering I was initially confused between SRM and VIT . But I chose SRM under the guidance of my school seniors who were already there in SRM and VIT as there is some shortage of faculty for chemical dept in VIT.

As of now , I have just been through the third semester , so just a half year experience in the core chemical studies which till now are going smoothly . There's a lot of focus on Practical learning . Lets us take the example of my course in which I have physical chemistry both the lab and theory go hand to hand thereby making the students easier to understand and experience it too. There are many electives like polymer technology, Renewable energy engineering, fertilizer technology etc for my department . Research initiatives are also taken by the institute ,if one is interested he/she can directly approach the concerned faculty and talk regarding his research.

Till last there were no such arrangements but this year they are planning to do so .Even they are planning to ask companies to come in the campus and offer internship to the students

I don't have much idea about the placement scenario but almost 60 % of the students got placement. The major companies were L&T , Infosys ,HUL, cement companies, tyres companies etc .I have no idea about the average package

The two main event that are organised are AARUSH and MILAN . AARUSH is a tech fest lot of competition are organised and students take part in it .It's very appealing and filled with fun too. The second main fest is MILAN which is the college fest lot of famous personalities are called upon and it's attract a lot of crowd too . Some of the people who were present in the college fest are Aditya Roy Kapoor, Zakir Khan, Kenny Sebestain, TVF , Shirley Setia, Vishal Dadlani etc . Both the events are a crowd puller and fun filled too

The fees is quite expensive. For me it was 2.15 lacks per year for the college fees . This time they have increased it to 2.5 lacks so it's expected to rise in the coming future too.

Yeah the college provide scholarship to the top 1000 rank holders . Yeah the college help in getting the loans too as one of my friend availed this facility and according to him it was quite simple . Even the banks a come in the college to discuss their loan scheme with the parents . I didn't avail any of these facilities

This is one of the best part in the college . There are a lot of clubs where you can join and explore your hidden talents . Each of the club has their own space where they work . Even some competition are organised by the college where you earn prizes too.

When I was in first year , the room was shared between three of us with common bathroom .The fees was around 96K inclusive of the meals . For laundry one has to pay 6K extra .The food was not up to the mark in first year but in second year I am finding it quite nice . But I will give on piece of advice living in hostel is a must have experience .

Yeah there is a proper platform for student-alumni interaction . Even they come regularly to the campus and interact with the students .I don't have any idea about the contribution of the alumni in the development of the University

There are total 2 cycle test before you move on to give the University exams . And for labs there is one cycle test and the University exam. As compared to other colleges the frequency of test is quite high , which has its own advantage and disadvantage . The main advantage what I see is that we are somehow in contact with the syllabus but at the same time it's tiring too.

The teachers are qualified enough and have enough knowledge and experience to share except some . The faculties which I selected for my courses are quite interactive and friendly too but some of my other batchmates doesn't share the same views. Standard of teaching is acceptable neither too deep nor too low.
