the college offers basic requirements around the campus for example hospital which is around 500 m from the college and very beautiful view of Mt Kanchenjunga from the campus.

Dislikes

nothing to be disliked about the campus life but we all know the bathrooms of college are not that good.

mechanical engineering was my first priority and i had deep interest in mechanical for its large scope in different fields of mechanical that is why i chose the course. faculty to student ratio is 1:2. faculties are well qualified from different IITs and NITs, Jadavpur uni,ISRO etc. thier teaching method is very good ,elaborative and easy. there are two semester in each year and two internals for each sem, it is quite easy to pass bcz of the college is autonomous.

Class Size: 60Course Fees: INR 3500 per year

Fees and Financial Aid

there is very less fee hike bcz the college is under the state government the cost of study for mechanical in jalpaiguri government engineering college is 37000 for 4 years. the scholarship is - svmcm. financial assistance is availed to the economically back students as tuition fee wavier. jobs are given to students from 6th sem. but stipend is available bcz our collge has partnered with IIT Jodhpur,IIT Kharagpur,etc where research interns can get stipend for their research work.

there are two annual fest in our collge namely-Jeclat (cultural fest) and Sristi (tech fest) they are conducted around Feb and October respectively. books and are avilable in our library. basic amenities are provided in the classrooms. sports and extra curicular are also available in the college such as yoga, cricket,football, yearly cricket competion are held in which diffrent clubs and college come together to win the tournament namelyCPL(College Premier League). clubs are-cfi, div and conquer ,ieee ,pandulipi,etc

Admission

to be eligible you have to pass the wbjee exam with good score and then the wbjee board will list you to the college according to your course preference and rank. application form, application fees,appliaction dates will be given by the college or will be available in the college website. reservation benifits are availed by the wbjee board and also available in the college. admission process is very time taking if it becomes fast it could be benificial for the students.

I don't have idea about the placements since I'm in first year now. But I talked to a senior and got to know that many got multiple offers in 4th year. I also head that packages are around 4 lpa which is a decent and also a rise than the previous year.

The summary of my four years in one of the oldest colleges in India

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.

Unbiased Review of JGEC

I applied to a few other government engineering colleges but i ended up choosing JGEC.The main reasons: JGEC is a well established,fully government owned autonomous college,with good accreditation.It also has a long history since 1961,which made me trust its academic environment.Compared to other colleges i applied to ,JGEC felt more stable and credible.It also has a reasonable structure and good campus infrastructure,labs and oppurtunities for intership .There is also a good scope for higher studies like GATE.The marks vs rank went extremely high in WBJEE 2025.That's why i didn't get a college i applied for which is near my home. You can take admission by giving WBJEE and JELET only.As it is a government college you can only take admission if you get a good rank .There is also different cut-offs for diff catagory.The overall admission process is was very smooth and systematic....Read More

According to my West Bengal joint entrance examination rank I said for the counselling in the first round I got Kalyani Government Engineering College with IT department but that was with the reservation under EWS quota with rank 2869. As I was not able to get me EWS certificate my admission there was cancelled and then according to my preference I got Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College with electronic and communication engineering department.
