Remarks
If you're looking a good on-campus life which doesn't burn a hole in your parent's pockets and you're not so concerned about placements and world-class amenities, then this is the right place for you. On a clear day, you can see the Himalayan mountains very clearly visible. And the weather is mostly comfortable. The overall experience is good, you get to meet a lot of new people from different backgrounds, discover yourself as a completely different person, learn the art of improvisation and compromises and become a strong individual at the end of the journey.
Entrance Preview
I appeared for WBJEE (Engineering) in 2014. There was no interview involved. I was shortlisted through my general merit rank of WBJEE. I chose CSE because it's the most developing field in the world right now and I've always had a passion for computers.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course that I opted for is really good. I'm doing CSE. I wouldn't say they put efforts for a lot of practical learning but there are a lot of opportunities for projects. There's a lot of new initiatives that are being taken mostly by the students of this college.
Internships Opportunities
CSE's HOD was kind enough to help out students and reach out to his contacts and almost 95% of the students get an internship in the summer. All thanks to the HOD of CSE. Other departments usually do a vocational training or an internship. The Internships that we got were mostly in academic institutions so there was no stipend given.
Placement Experience
The placement scenario is very bad to be fairly honest. I'd rather suggest to pursue engineering from Heritage, IEM or Techno Salt Lake if placements is all you're concerned about. Every year, around 40-45% people get placed in companies like TCS, CTS, IBM, Tech Mahindra, Shaphoorji Palonji. Average package being : 3.2 LPA
College Events
There are two fest in the month of March and April. The first being the social and cultural fest of the college. It's the biggest fest in North Bengal, previously, singers like KK, Aditi Singh Sharma and bands like Fossils, Eka, Bolpur Blues, Anupam Roy, Lost Stories (the first EDM witnessed in 2017) and there are a lot of other programmes too. The techo-management fest is held in April which showcases the unforseen talent of the participants from various colleges in Robotics,B-plan, and other technical competitions.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It's one of the most affordable engineering colleges you'll find in West Bengal, in fact, India. For a total of 8 semesters in Computer Science and Engineering, the college fees is somewhere around 65,000 to 67,000 and the hostel fees is around 96,000 for a total of 8 semesters.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are two scholarships provided to economically weak students. One being a full tuition fees waiver and the other being half. Students apply for it and they are selected through a screening interview for the same.
Campus Life
The college excels in every field that a student can think of, the campus is beautiful with tea gardens around and a space of 165 acres. It has a gymnasium, football ground, cricket ground, volleyball court, basketball court, badminton courts and table tennis in sports. The college cricket team organises a yearly competition and also plays in other competitions. There are various clubs for music, dance, art, trekking, rotary, and an initiative for the underprivileged children called Jyoti, so a lot of social work too.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel rooms are okay. They are mostly shared by 3 people, can go up to 4. And in the final year, 2 people share a small room and some get a single room. Yes, there are a lot of PGs outside the college college. Close to the vicinity of 2KM. We paid around 96,000 for the food and accommodation inclusive of all. The food was good. Sometimes, great. No issues with that.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is brilliant. There is a lot of involvement in the development of our college through of alumni network.
Exam Structure
It's a chill culture. Not under a lot of pressure.
Faculty
We only have a few associate professors in our college. Most of the professors do not even have a PhD. The classes can get very boring sometimes. There's a dire need of fresh recruitment of better professors and faculty. The standard is not up to the mark.
