Remarks

As a whole my college is pretty awesome. But it needs to improve it's Library facilities. It is in pretty bad condition. But the book bank is an additional benefit in our college. As we do not need to buy any book. College provides books for each semester for free, that is to be returned once the semester is over.College Campus is pretty decent with ample sports facilities eg. Cricket Ground, Football Ground, Basket Ball Ground & Gym (For both girls and boys).

Entrance Preview

I sat for WBJEE 2014 and got a rank of 15062. Then, through WBJEE Counselling, I got Mechanical Engineering at Dr. B. C Roy Engineering College, Durgapur in First Round Counselling. No, there was no any interview. Once, WBJEE Counselling was over and I was allotted My college. I was just called at a specific date to come and fulfill all admission related procedures. I have always loved learning about how machines work and learn how to design them. This is why I decided to go for Mechanical Engineering and I have loved every moment of my Mech Life. I chose Dr. B. C. Roy Engg College for this because. This was the most decent college available at my WBJEE Rank and it's Lab Facilities are pretty decent.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

As I chose Mechanical Engineering & I am happy to mention that we had an amazingly talented and highly motivated fleet of professors, that made learning much more fun and a helped us understanding Machines in an easy and understandable manner.

Internships Opportunities

Yeah, few internship opportunities are provided by college in collaboration with certain companies. But it is far too less than the total number of students in final year. I have not got any internship opportunity so far. So no idea about the experience. Average stipend amount have been around Rs 8000 p.m. to Rs 14000 p.m.

Placement Experience

3.5

Placement scenario is pretty great for Non-Core Branches like CSE, EC, IT & Instrumentation. Though core branches also get few campus drives but that is too less than required.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Being a private college and Comparing the Academic and Hostel Facilities, It provides, Fee Structure is pretty ok. The fee is approximately around Rs 1,40,000 per annum ( Hostel + Academics included). 1. 1st Sem - Rs 89000 2. 2nd Sem - Rs 63,000 3. 3rd Sem - Rs 67,000 4. 4th Sem - Rs 63,500 5. 5th Sem - Rs 67,500 6. 6th Sem - Rs 64,000 7. 7th Sem - Rs 68,000 8. 8th Sem - Rs 64,500 This fee is including Hostel & Mess Charges. In case someone wants to be a Day Scholar, Their fees will be approx Rs 37000 to Rs 41,000 per semester. Note: Above fees, is for 2014-18 batch. For New Batches, there might be a slight increment in fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

No college does not provide any scholarships. No college will not itself help you in getting loans. They will just issue a certificate that you may submit to bank in case you want a loan. Other than this, college won't do anything in this matter.

Campus Life

3

Our college has a pretty great approach in providing ample opportunities to students to participate in extracurriculars. A number of competitions, workshops, events are organized on a timely basis, in which one can participate and explore themselves. Yeah, I got so many opportunities. I got to do anchoring in events, got to be the Training & Placement Coordinator, attended few workshops, Participated in few competitions etc. Except music, for the rest of the activities, ample facilities are available.

Hostel Facilities

4

Yes, I have been staying in Hostel from the first day of my college life. No, there are no single rooms at all. All the rooms in Hostel have accommodation for 4 students and we have to share our room with 4 of us. Yeah, there are a lot of PG's available around the college area at decent prices. You can also chose whether you want a single room or as many roommates you wish to have. Normally if you share your room with a roommate, You will have to pay around Rs 1300 per month per person just for Room and additional Rs 500 for food. In case of College Hostel, Rs 3500 is the Mess Food Charge and Rs 1000 is the Seat Rent per month. Hostel Food is pretty good. You would get chicken and fish 4 days a week. Though the taste is somedays great, somedays dull. But it's much better than other colleges at this fees. You would get morning tea and evening snacks every day. As per PG's, it is up to you what you want to eat. There will be Maasi's one can hire who will cook food for you two times a day.

Alumni/Alumna

This is a weak point in our college. There is very few to almost zero interaction with alumni. No, college does not provide any platform for student-alumni interaction. If i can personally interact with my seniors, that is the only option.

Exam Structure

I don't know what other students felt. But for me, It was a chill culture. We used to have two class tests for each subject in each sem and one final semester exam. Class tests will be held at an interval of 1 to 1.5 months and there would be ample time to prepare for it.

Faculty

3.5

Best things about our Mechanical Department is Most of the teachers are highly qualified. Many of them have industrial experience (TATA Steel, DSP, DPL etc.) of several years too, that is very helpful for us as we get to learn about the work culture. Most of the teachers are M.Tech for Decent Universities (NIT's too) with a lot of teaching experience. Few teachers have also done PhD's, some are currently pursuing it. Except, a few teachers, All the other teachers are really very interactive and approachable. They are always ready to help you with any of your doubts either in class or after class. Even if they somehow do not know the answer then, they take time to find it and at the end solve student's doubts. So, I would say standard of teaching is pretty awesome.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
