Remarks

No bad remarks really, only thing is I heard they changed the college campus to accommodate some of the North Bengal University classes which should have been prohibited.

Entrance Preview

WBJEE, an exam conducted by the WBJEE board is the prerequisite to get into the college. It consists of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics exam

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Very good facilities, particularly for mother departments like EE, CE or Mechanical Engineering. It has good workshop facilities and being purely residential college, it helps a lot for the students. The course which I have gone through was under university of north Bengal. My department was electrical engineering.

Internships Opportunities

I am not sure about this, earlier it used to provide internships although on a temporary basis. Need to check the college website for further detail.

Placement Experience

5

There is a Training and Placement Office and overall placement opportunity is very good. Every year large companies like Tata Consultancy Services, CTs, Infosys go there for campus recruitment. Also, core companies like MN Dastur.

College Events

5

A lot of events are organized and celebrated. Most famous ones are, Annual Social, Intercollege cultural meet, Sports Day event, Football Tournament to name a few. Biswakarma Puja is also celebrated in a big way. JGEC annual fest is one of its kind and undoubtedly the best in North Bengal

Fee Structure And Facilities

This is quite feasible. Second cheapest college in WB. When I studied there, the tuition fees were 2400 per year and that was very cheap. Although new departments like IT will cost a bit more, still it is very much affordable. Hostel charges are minimal, and meal expenses are up to the student.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, there is Free Scholarship for the needy students. Also, there are other private organizations who offer a scholarship to the students who need them

Campus Life

4

The gender ratio is a bit poor, otherwise a well-diversified institution. When we studied there were 13 girls compared to 230 boys across five departments. I am sure the ratio has improved over last 14 years though. The college has a drama club, cultural club, trekking club, photography club and a multipurpose gymnasium as well.

Hostel Facilities

5

In one word very good. There are 5 hostels in the college, four for the boys and one ladies hostel. All the hostels are quite large and could accommodate 300 students each. All the hostels have their own dining and canteen system and a large common hall. The common hall has a big TV, carton and TT board for recreation and indoor games.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni are very strong. The college was established 57 years back and a lot of the alumnus is highly placed across various organizations

Admission

WBJEE tank holders get a chance to go through counseling process. JGEC is one of the top three engineering colleges in West Bengal Typically students need to be ranked within 2000 to get a chance there. However if there are some empty seats, sometimes worse rank holders also get chance for admission

Faculty

4.5

Very qualified and knowledgeable faculties. The infrastructure is also very good. Also, the college got the status of deemed university now and also offers Masters degree in various departments. The library is well organized, has a very good collection. Overall the faculty and other facilities are quite satisfactory.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
