Course Curriculum Overview
My JEE percentile was around 99.42, for which I was allowed ECE in NITK in the CSAB special round. The faculty-to-student ratio during the regular classes would be 1:65, but during the lab hours would be 7:65. The faculty here are highly qualified and are very specific about the field of expertise. For a student with a moderate to strong JEE background, the term exams here are pretty easy, even by studying a day before the exam one can get very decent grades in most of the subjects.
Internships Opportunities
There are a lot of companies visiting NITK but as a 1st year BTech student, I'm yet unaware of the internship opportunities. Internships are provided for students from the end of the second year of BTech
Placement Experience
Placements in the college are pretty decent, around 17 LPA for almost all the circuital branches is the average and the core branches would have an average around 11 LPA .IT department enjoys 100% placements here in the NITK and almost every branch has atleast 85% of the students placed by the end of the 4th year.
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost to study here at NITK varies for each and every student depending on their reservation, students with SC/ST reservations can avail of a lot of scholarships and fee waivers. Generally speaking the minimum course fee for 4 years of BTech comes down to 5,00,000 and the maximum goes to 12,00,000.
Campus Life
The campus life here at NITK is great, but the only thing which huddles a lot of students is the humid and hot climate of Surathkal throughout the year. We have two annual fests that happen every year at NITK. Those are INCIDENT and ENGINEER, INCIDENT is a cultural fest which promotes students' talents like arts, music, drama, and photography. Whereas ENGINEER is a technical fest where a lot of technical events happen like ACM, IEEE, IET etc.
Hostel Facilities
Presently NITK has 12 boys and 5 girls hostels out of which 2 boys hostels(Shiwalik and Brahmagiri) are aloted for MTech and PhD scholars.Students are given a choice of double and triple sharing rooms in the 1st year of Btech(only 3 hostels are available for boys in which 2 are non veg and 1 is veg), From 2nd year of BTech students can opt for single sharing rooms.The food quality in the mess is decent when it is compared to it's cost (150-170 per day).
Admission
We are eligible by writing an entrance examination(JEE) and scoring 75% in class 12th irrespective of the Board. I availed of EWS reservation benefits while taking admission into the college. I feel like the admission process was pretty smooth and I find no reason to blame it.
