Life's best four years, enjoy the college

One of the best college across Kolkata with no pressure of attendance. Lovely seniors to enjoy with the full day. Fests to be remembered as long as you are alive especially cultural fest, i.e., RESURRECTION. Located in a very busy area of Kolkata where you can find all sorts of luxury near you.

I got admission in Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology through WBJEE exams, 2017. My GMR was 8589 and my name was the first in SC category to get admitted in 2017.

My stream is computer science and engineering. It mainly focuses on the development of a computer system, different programming languages, database management, data structure, etc. Moreover, one can give GATE exams for post-graduation and study software engineering after studying this course which is actually my dream. Similarly, research can also be done in this field.

Our college does not provide internships but any student can search for internships and they can apply for it. Our college gives no restriction to students pursuing internships outside. Many students of our college are doing internships in the multinational companies.

Placements were very good at a time but recently the record came down with a very few students get placed after their four years of hard work. Companies like TCS, COGNIZANT, WIPRO, CAPGEMINI, etc. do come but they offer very few job opportunities. Almost 70% of students got placed this year.

Our college organizes three fests:- technical, sports, cultural. The technical fest is named as enginerds; sports fest as ANNUAL SPORTS FEST; and cultural fest as RESURRECTION. Along with that SARASWATI PUJA is a festival which is also celebrated in our college.

Being a government funded college, the fee structure is very low. For my computer science and engineering department, the fee structure is INR 12000 p.a.

Our college offers us two scholarships. One is OASIS scholarship for lower caste students and another is SWAMI VIVEKANANDA MERIT CUM MEANS scholarship. The second one is a better option as it offers INR 60000 per year which is more than enough for a student to pursue the course.

The gender ratio is around 60:40, 60% boys and 40% girls. Many workshops are held in our college. Almost every week a workshop is held. The campus is beautiful with gardens surrounding the college. It is maintained every day. Every student is treated equally with same respect. Anyone can take anything and play. A big playground is present in our college. Debates, robotics competitions are held during our technical fest.

Our seniors are most helpful to everyone. Ragging is absolutely banned from our college and no one ever tries to do so. Anyone can ask anything to a senior without any hesitation. Moreover, students can do anything they want.

In our BTECH engineering course, we need to give two-semester exams each year with two internals for each subject per semester along with lab exams for each subject per semester.

I had cleared WBJEE exams, 2017 with a rank of 8589 and I belonged to SC category. Counseling of WBJEE is an online procedure and I had selected as many as 20 colleges. On the day of result, I was given this college and I was quite happy with this. I did not choose upgradation as it was already my 2nd option in the list. I went to reporting centre and completed all the formalities. Then another day, I went to the college to know about the admission details. On the admission day, I was made to sit in a room where other students were also sitting for admission. One by one they were calling us and knowing our details. Then I submitted the documents and 1st semester fees and my admission was done. They told me the day when classes would start and then I returned home.

The faculty is very good. They are very helpful. Other colleges, we may see teachers are not taking their classes at all. Our professors are very eager to teach us. If anyone has any doubt, they can approach the professor and solve their queries. They are very helpful.
