Course Curriculum Overview
I was pretty interested in electronics and signal transmission etc. ECE in NITK offers quite a challenging course, and scoring a cgpa of 7.0 and above requires you to understand the course concepts thoroughly. Although the college is pretty old, the courses get updated every 5 years, and theres a lot of flexibility in choosing electives and topics for major projects, mjniprojects etc. under the guidance of well qualified professors. Quizzes are held every month and there's the Mid semester and End Semester exams for every semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition fee for students under the General category is around Rs.60k per semester, with a 2/3rd reduction from it for students under OBC and full reduction for ST/SC. Mess + Hostel fee is around 35k for every semester. Additional 2k that covers medical care, facilities etc. There are multiple scholarships for students with high +2 scores, girl students from families with low income, etc. Every year more than 30 companies come for campus placements, including both core and IT.
Campus Life
There are two main fests in NITK, Incident, a cultural fest held in even semesters (March) and Engineer, during the odd semester (October). The library has at least 20 copies of books of almost all authors of every subject of every course. They are very organised and are under a supervised system for borrowing. There's also an extensive E-library available for all students with modern facilities. Every classroom is well furnished with desks with electronic sockets, theatrical seating, projectors and podiums. There are enough sports equipments for all students, and outdoor and indoor spaces allocated for each sport. Inter-NIT tournaments are held every year, along with intraNITK tournaments. Floodlights, Fresher's Cup, etc. are some such events. There are multiple tech clubs like IEEE, IET, ACM etc. and hobby clubs like ECell, Amateur Astronomy Club, Literature clubs, Stage etc. managed by students.
Admission
The course i took (Btech in ECE) into NITK was through Jee Mains rank. The cuttoff ranks started from 13k and below. Under my category, OBC, it started from approx. 26k rank. All of the admission process was done through Josaa counseling. There were two attempts for Jee in the same academic year. The admission process looked pretty fair to me.
