- The work culture , the students around , they are the main motivation for me to work , seeing other students gain skills helps me to get out of my bed and develop myself
- There are many clubs which are active and make us a more skilled person , make new friends in club , increase social skills and personal
- The campus is very clean and lush green with a beach .There are Many stalls food court canteens which are quite affordable and useful when we don't eat in mess
Dislikes
- The weather here is very humid , if you are used to stay in a cooler environment you may face difficulties here
- Water supply here is very poor sometimes , the last summer we experienced water scarcity of drinking water too !!!!
- The exams are conducted very frequently and not allowing the faculty to complete their syllabus properly . The curriculum should focus more on practical knowledge rather than theory
Course Curriculum Overview
The IT curriculum is designed very well with core concepts like Object Oriented Programming and C/C++ taught in the first year itself , the 2nd year has importantance to core networking , datavases , operating system which is required in the interviews in the 3rd year for internships The frequency of exams is a point of concern as the semester is of 4 months(3 months in the 4th semester) which gives around 40 days between the mid semester and end semester along with quizzes and practical exams in between
Internships Opportunities
Internship are provided in 3rd year through campus interviews or selection tests Many companies like Google uber Flipkart Microsoft DeShaw and many more famous companies visit NITK The average stipend they provide to CS/IT students is 40-70k and the highest can go above 2L per month too.
Placement Experience
Campus placements of NITK are good. Considering it a tier 1 government college , there are many companies who visit NITK My branch IT has a 100% placement record in the last 20 years since it's establishment, CS IT ECE are the main branches from where companies select students Internship opportunities are provided by college in ye 3rd year itself through campus interviews. Students also apply offcampus and get placed
Fees and Financial Aid
Being a DASA candidate the fees I pay is highes than the regular candidates , But the JOSAA candidate have a few of around 1.5 L per year , the college also exempts the SC/ST category from paying fees There are regular scholarship for economically weaker people , also the college provides mess fee concession for them The top performers in each branch according to their JEE rank get a certain scholarship of around 8000
Campus Life
The NITK campus is Lush green and the biggest thing is that the college has a private beach which is very clean . There are many many beach events held here There are many clubs with intelligent students and brilliant ideas Many events keep taking place such as dance competition , cultural festivals , incident and Engineer(college fests) , club events , motivational talks , sports competitions , hackathons and unique events Overall there is a chill atmosphere in the campus with many stalls canteens and a food court which is the life line of students
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are pretty average On first year we had to share a room with 3 people , in a room of the size of a double sharing room , in the room we get a switchboard and LAN cable with appreciable wifi speed The washrooms are cleaned once in 3 days and it is upto the students how they use it The mess is better than expected , especially Block 3 and Block 4 messes are good Hostels are booked through our own student run app called IRIS NITK
Admission
The admission process was through DASA It was quite a smooth process with clear information on what should be done My branch is IT in NITK , and according to the JEE rank from 10k - 25k ranked people were eligible for this branch , The JEE rank was first converted to DASA rank of all applicants , after which the cutoffa had come
