BIT Mesra, things you might not know

When its comes to academics and course curriculum, it appears to be one of the major factors which influenced my decision of joining the institution. Each respective branch has it's updated curriculum focusing on the main outcomes of the branch students. In my opinion, the curriculum of the college is so well made, it brings out the engineer you are supposed to be over the span of 4yrs. I believe we cannot question the institution when it comes to academics, course curriculum and syllabus. As for teaching methods, ofcourse the classes are fully equipped with all the technologies one could need for education. It depends from professor to professor on how the teaching would actually affect you but the materials are well made and timely delivered by the faculty. The timing of examinations are usually either 10am or 2pm. Depends on which semster you are. As for the duration, the midsems are over 2hrs long and endsems are over 3hrs long. Difficulty of midsems are less than that of endsems.

The intenship opportunities start as easly as 5th Semester when the companies start visiting the campus looking for interns. Companies which visit the college for interships are - Atlassian with a stipend of 75k, Microsoft, Walmart. Google also gives internship but students apply for it off-campus since google does not visit the campus.The main demand for intership revolves around WebDevelopent or Software Reseacrch and Development. The companies end up giving PPOs 90% of the times and this boosts the statistics of the college. The major outcomes one gets from the internships is that they get the real work experience of the corporate world. They get referrals which further expand their connections. To conclude, I'd say the institute doesn't fall short on providing us with the opportunities , the students must know how to grab one when the time comes.

For campus placement, companies start visiting around the month of August and the process goes on till February. BIT Mesra boasts its incredible placement stats over the internet. The average package for CSE for the year 2021 is 19.2LPA, and that of IT is 20.8LPA . Highest package being 85LPA offered by Atlassian. Companies like Sprinklr, Walmart, Microsoft also visit the campus and hire students for jobs worth 30LPA. The average package for the college aggregating all branches stands at 14LPA which is a decent placement stat during the times of COVID and recession effects. Although the college has taken a significant hit during the year 2023 where the percentage of students placed were around 67% owing to the recession and less comapnies visting the campuses for recruitment. However, the T&P cell of BIT Mesra has held close relations with many great companies and boasts a wide allumini network. As for my plans after the degree, I aim at joining a good firm to work with.

The tuition fee for the Batch 2022-2026 is around 12Lacs. The total cost over the span of 4yrs including the hostel and mess fees which are paid seperately comes to somewhere around 16Lacs. The college ofcourse provides various scholarships and releif programs for the needy. The GP BIRLA Scholarship which gives upto 100% tuition fee waiver is given on merit after ending of each semseter. There are also scholarships on the basis of JEE MAINS AIR, the institute offers 50% fee waiver to general category student with CRL less than 4000 and CRL less than 15000 for SC/ST students. The institute also provides forms of the Scholarship for ST/PT/SC/OBC students provided by the Jharkhand government to help boost up students from backward background. The college has a good diversity and students from all over the country can be found.

The universtiy is a very happening place to be in. Apart from the various events which takes place throughout the year, the college boasts its 2 major fests. The cultural fest- Bitotsav, said to be the greatest fest of east India and Pantheon, the technical fest of BIT Mesra. Bitotsav takes place around February/March and spans over the course of 4days including over 35 different events. Pantheon happens during the summers and spans over the duration of 3days. The college has a central library which is G+2 floors and and it is a peaceful spot with every book one could need for their enlightenment. The library issues book for the duration of 15days to general students and for 6months to SC/ST students after which it fines the student INR 10/day. The classrooms are well equipped with every technology required for easy transfer of knowledge. Every classroom is equipped with centrallised Air Conditioning and Projectors.The college has over 28 clubs covering every aspect of human passion.

Every hostel room inside the campus are all alike in dimensions and colour. They provide a LAN Cable for ethernet connection. From 2rd year onwards, every student gets their own single room. For the first year, the students are placed in hostels-1,2,3,4 in double sharing rooms. The meal quality of the hostels are good as compared to other colleges and mess but it is inevitable for the students to get bored of the same meal everyday for the past 4 years. The registration for the hostel is done at the time of physical reporting upon paying INR25,000/- for the semester. As for the affordabilty, the hostel is worth for what it offers. The price isn't as high as other private engineering colleges. The hostels are all located near the main building inside the campus, making it easier for the students to access the classes early in the morning. The institute does not offer a choice to live off-campus irrespective of the city you live in.

The admission process is similar to those of IITs/NITs. It is through JOSAA. I opted for CSE in BIT Mesra after scoring 98.3 percentile in JEE Mains. The only other Eligibility university holds for admission is the 75% criteria in 12th Board Examination. There is also an option for spot-counselling which the college performs on it's website (www.bitmesra.ac.in) to fill up the remaining seats after JOSAA/CSAB. After the allotment through JOSAA, the college announces the physical report date. The reservation benefits are similar to those of other NITs, i.e 50% state quota and other reservations. For OBC, the university conducts its own counselling on its website before the session begins. The eligibility being the same. On topic of examination, over the course of 4 months, there are 2 quizes and a midsem followed by the endsem worth 50% of the grade. The frequency of examination isn't hectic as such but surely the college gets you ready for the real world.
