Remarks

The management is good but a bit over strict as of the college grade. In other terms the campus is good with good number or well equipped labs, library, canteens, small stores for stationeries. But it would have been great if the level of strictness were less.

Entrance Preview

I wanted to pursue with Btech in biotechnology. The number of college that offers this course in Kolkata is very less. Among them "Uem" was my first preference from the list. It is because my parents wanted me to get admitted in a college that has a good discipline with a good curriculum.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

According to me the curriculum is hectic to be honest and needs a lot of effort. The number of assignments, projects, lab files for each subject in each semester is quite a good number. It can easily make a person tired but then one has to make time for the preparations for exams and also for the lab exams as well. Each semester has got 2 internal exams that carries marks for the internal assessment in the final semester.

Internships Opportunities

Internships are provided from 3rd year. From the department of biotechnology, seniors have got good internships from around the city and experienced the world of industry and work.

Placement Experience

3.5

No batch has been passed out yet. But the senior most batch of Btech will be having their placements from October 2018 onwards. Campusing of BBA and BCA students have been done and they have good number of jobs. All the students of Btech including me as well are looking forward to a good round of campusing.

College Events

3.5

Events are another important object in this college. A few of them are like- 1. The college fest, ECSTASIA : The cultural fest is full of enthusiasm. Participation from the students are expected either for the different performances or as a volunteer that also brings very much fun factor. 2. It also conducts technical fest in collaboration with ISRO. 3. It conducted a marathon where all were cordially invited. 4. Coding events are also there with others. 5. BIOSPECTRUM : An international conference where delegates are invited as judges and holds different events related to the subject.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is not so feasible. It costs 60,000 rupees per semester and 1000 rupees for each semester with 400 rupees as a registration fee only for the first time is needed. For the whole Btech course a total of around 4lac is required for all of the 8 semesters.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college sanctions educational loans offered by different banks. Different scholarship programs are also being offered but I don't have that much of knowledge of it.

Campus Life

4

Campus life is more like a school than a college. Discipline, punctuality are always being maintained. The number of male students are dominated than female, yet sharing a good bond with each other. We have karate classes as extracurricular activities.Workshops for robotics, web development and others are being held which are helpful for the students and interesting as well.Biotechnology department arrange good lecturers and eminent personalities that helps students know their future aspect.

Hostel Facilities

3

I stay at Kolkata only and quite near to the college so I don't need the hostel facility and can't comment on this topic. But from friends who take hostel facilities, from them I've heard that the accommodation is good enough but the food have been a little better.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors are very friendly and helpful. No means of ragging are expected. Juniors and seniors make a good relation in and outside the campus also. Since not a single batch is passes out yet, no such alumni structure is there.

Exam Structure

Exams are conducted in a strict manner. Time punctuality is very important here. Late comers are to face harrasments and punishments. Invigilators are strict enough and keeps a good eye on everyone. CCTV cameras are also installed inside every room of the buildings.

Admission

Uem conducts it's own entrance exam that is IEMJEE, but due to some circumstances I missed the dates of the examination. But still went to the college authority and they asked me about my class 12 percentages and if I have appeared for any competitive exams. I had sit for WBJEE, JEEMAINS and some others as well. On the basis of that rank I got admitted.

Faculty

4

Faculties are really very good. Departments have got really efficient and amazing faculty members. They keep us updated with all the recent technological advancements. Students can seek help from the teachers whenever needed, even after college hours.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

It's my decision from class 12 that I will do civil engineering, so I chose the civil branch, the course curriculum is well and the teaching level is good but the main problem is lab, there is very limited classes for lab, so I think they should improve there.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
