K J Somaiya: Review from a Fresher

The curriculum is well set and gives opportunities for students to improve in fields they lack. There needs to be skill development to make students well prepared for the placements as there are a lot of freshers. We have semester exams after 3 months. Faculty are very supportive and well qualified as well. They help student in clearing doubts and also help us in projects.

The highest stipend given was 1.86 lakh per month by SMBC. Some students who had done internships with DE Shaw had got 1 lakh per month stipend. Some companies gave 70000 to 80000 per month stipend. A lot of companies gave unpaid internships. The process usually consisted of filling sign up forms followed by group discussion followed by personal interview. Students who cleared all the rounds got the internship.

Students get summer placements by mid 3rd trimester and final placements also take place alongside. There are a lot of startup companies coming to take students for summer placements. The highest for summer placements was 1.86 per month and average was around 25000 per month.

The tuition fee is around Rs. 2100000/- excluding hostel and mess services. There are scholarships available for students with merit if they want to avail. There are unpaid live projects and internships available.

There is almost always some or other event going going on the campus relating to a variety of interests be it educational, interactive, sports or anything. The library is big with fiction books also available. There are a lot of clubs or groups students can involve themselves in, directly or indirectly.

The admission process was decently smooth. The eligibility exam considered, for me, was CMAT. An email was received 2 days after the exam asking for results. On achieving the cutoff, the Personal Interview was conducted that very weekend and offer letter send in a few days. It was all well communicated and concerns were well addressed.

There was a personal interview round before the offer letter was sent. The criteria taken into account was entrance exam score and academic background. I prepared for the entrance process by reading about the current affairs and topics related to ky academic background.
