IIM Kashipur: A review of IIM of the North

IIM Kashipur's core MBA course focuses on imparting students with practical knowledge along with making sure their theoretical concepts are thorough. With subjects including programming, R, Python to integration of those subjects in finance, or marketing research, they provide you for real-world problems for roles like investment banking, consultancy or product managers. After looking at the curriculum I was in awe of the rigorous and challenging curriculum for which I wanted to pursue MBA. The course strengthens students concepts with a Case based approach where real life corporate cases are taken and discussed with the students to find solutions and apply theoretical concepts to them. The curriculum includes a well balanced structure of quizzes, Class participation, mid term and end term exams, their weightage depending on the course. One recommendation from my side would be to include more industry visits for greater exposure.

I was placed in TATA MOTORS for my summer internship from the college. Many renowned companies visit our campus and offer various roles ranging from sales, retail management, general management, to many others. 108 companies came to the campus in 2022 and the highest stipend went till 2.02 Lakhs roughly. Students have the choice to apply to the company and role of their choice. The projects are then chosen by these companies depending upon your role once your intership starts.

The current average of the college is at 18.1 Lakhs. As it is a college with larger batch size, once you get placed, you cannot sit for another company. You are eligible to appear for the final placements in 4th semester. The placement committee ensures enough companies are floating to provide all students with job offers. Roughly 165 companies came to campus in 2023. No of offers made data is not available. Most companies are visiting for marketing and sales profile, with renowned companies like AbinBev, Swiggy,Deloitte,RBS and many more do come to campus. There is ensures 100% placement guaranteed for students enrolled in the placement process. After getting the degree, I will be joining the company where I get placed. The placement committee also ensures bringing companies for summer internships and ensures students enroll in an enriching, technical internship through which students learn.

The initial fees includes registration along with fees for term 1 which is roughly 3.36 Lakhs. From then on the fees for next 5 terms is 2.82 Lakhs. This fees includes academic fees, hostel facility and all other facilities except mess fees. At the start of every term, a fees of 20k rupees is paid for the whole term/three months. No other fees is taken. All of this amounts to a total of roughly 18 Lakhs. There is no sudden hike or changes in the fees, it is fixed. There are various scholarships available for students ranging from merit basis, need basis, meri-cum-need basis and various foundations also provide scholarship for students who meet their criteria. Scholarships ranging from 25k to 2Lakh per month are given. The campus also provides opportunities for live projects of 2-3 monthswhere you get paid or get certified by that organisation. A typical live project lasts 2 months and pays 3k per month. And the stipend for summer internships changes every year.

IIM Kashipur has various clubs, committees and cells and there are many festivals and events being organised by them on a daily basis. This gives various opportunities for students to not just enjoy campus life but also partake in academic excellence. The college's annual flagship event, Agnitraya, is a three day event consisting of various activities ranging from sports events, concerts, case competitions, cultural events and food fests. The institute also provides us with a state of the art library with latest books and sitting facilities like no other. The peace and quite there is unmatched. You can also access various journals and newspaper there. The 200 acre campus offers various resorts for students to relax themselves including various sports activities like Futsal, volleyball, TT and a relaxation room with foosball. It is a student run campus which gives various opportunities to learn how organizations this big work and their administration.

IIM kashipur has a red brick structure and the hostel blocks leave you in awe with their beauty. Each hostel block has 4 floors with 6 room on each floor and a common room. The common room has a microwave, washing machine, a water filter, dryer and a few table chairs to make sure students can have their productive discussions there. All the rooms are equipped with radiat cooling and heating, which ensures there is no need for AC's or heaters. There is hot water available 24/7 and the rooms and bathrooms are very clean and comfortable. The meals served in the mess are the best part. Kashipur has the best meals out of all IIMs including 4 time meals daily and non veg being served 3 days out of 7. The meals are laid out in buffet manner and there is everything available. When you arrive at the college, your hostel refutation process is done then and there. There is no seperate hostel fees. This is a residential program so it is compulsory to stay in hostels.

I found out about IIM kashipur through the city meet they had conducted before our CAP interviews. CAP interview is the collective interview taken by 9 new IIMs. I had applied for their Core MBA and thus filled the form for CAP. I was eligible as my overall CAT percentile was more than 92 percentile and sectional cutoffs were more than 70. The application form link was sent to the eligible candidates if they were able to clear this cutoff, and there was no application fees specially for colleges under CAP. It was all covered under the fees for CAT form. The application dates were between second to third week of January and my interview date was 24th of February. There were no seperate exam for this process and all that took place was one interview. The interview process is very smooth, in case a candidate has a problem in clash with another interview, they can get it rescheduled easily. My suggestion to improve this process would be to reintroduce GD process as it is a necessary skills
