Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The courses are relevant enough and invloves real-time learning, but the quality of your classes depends on the professors you pick; There's an abundance of good and subpar professor. But this is not an issue as the FFCS i.e the course selection system lets you pick your own courses. The timing of classes is also flexible and you can pick morning or evening classes according to your preference.

Internships Opportunities

5

I was offered an internship by Neural Transformers.AI, a start-up based in Chennai, via one of my faculties/mentors. The internship spanned a total of 2 months with remote working thrice a week and a final presentation at their institution. The stipend was 2000 INR.

Placement Experience

4.5

Students can sign up for placements from the 7th semester. The highest package as of the previous session was 1.15 crores with an average package of 6 lakhs. VIT boasts a 100 percent placement record but the students who can attend campus placements are 7.5 cgpa plus students, which significantly cuts down the actual placement percentages. My plans in VIT are to get placed in a company offering a position of 10 lakhs plus LPA.

Fees and Financial Aid

There is an annual hike in tuition fees as well hostel fees, usually ranging in a total increase of around 20-30k. My complete educational cost in the year of 2023 was 5,10,000. There is scope for multiple scholarships and financial aid. The campus presents multiple opportunities for projects, placement and internships. I have personally undertaken an internship offered by VIT, with a stipend of 2000.

Campus Life

4

There are multiple clubs and chapters in VIT, with their numbers still increasing. The flagship events in VIT Chennai are Vibrance, the cultural fest, and TechnoVIT, the Technical fest. The library is well equipped although the library staff is occasionally uncooperative, but the automatic issuing system in the library negates this. Each class is provided with projectors and books are discouraged, instead promoting the use of tablets and laptops. There is sports grounds of all sorts, including A football field, two basketball fields, a common ground, a cricket ground, gyms, climbing studios, and numerous indoor games. VIT also encourages student-run groups and clubs, the most prominent being VITrends, the unofficial newsletter/hub of VIT.

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel rooms are decent, and AC rooms are recommended due to the extreme heat of Chennai summers. The registration process is online, and the availability of rooms is based on a leaderboard system based on your CGPA. The hostel mess is very mid, with the food being usually okay and occasionally abysmal. Although the hostel and mess are relatively affordable, averaging around 1.5 to 2 lakhs a year, PGs are recommended due to better food and freedom.

Admission

The admission process is through a private entrance exam called VITEEE. One can apply for the exam on the VIT official website. The exam is three hours and the paper is divided into 5 sections- Maths(40 marks),Physics(35 marks), Chemistry(35 marks), English(5 marks) and Logical reasoning(10 marks). After the results are out, students are divided into 5 admission categories based on their ranks. Your coirse fees increase with your respective category.

Specific schedule is not followed in college regarding the academic and co curricular activities. Sudden decisions will be taken by the management which is a bit difficult for the students and faculty too. There were times where faculties are fed up of management rules and decisions.

1.) Placement begins from the pre-final year and we are allowed to apply for companies from the final year. 2.) Around 70% of the class gets placed in reputed companies with an average CTC of 4-8 LPA. 3.) Along with core biotech companies, many IT companies are also hiring students at a very decent package. 4.) I plan to pursue a master's after this course.
