Course Curriculum Overview
From an early age I always wanted to be a merchant navy officer and so when I got a chance to make that dream come true I didn't think twice and got into the course. Well the course prepares you to be tough and face all the problems in life with a strong mindset and to tame our lives just like we tame the seas. The only improvements in the course is to decrease the syllabus because there are a lot of subjects in the which makes it harder for students to study. There are 2 class tests and a main semester exam at the end of each semester the level of the exam is moderate-difficult.
Internships Opportunities
The different companies are Wallem,OSM Thom, BP, Torm,MSC shipping, NYK,EPS, and Goodwood are the different companies coming to the campus and everyone tries to hire students for cadet ship and they offer from 25000-50000 for cadet ship. We are thought about everything in the ship and how to live in the ship and how everything works there.
Placement Experience
Students are eligible for campus placements from the first year itself because of the demand for people in this industry. Till now in the first year Wallem has come and taken about 10 Students and has offered 250 dollars for cadet ship. The highest package is about 700000 annually. You need to be getting above 75% to get placed as soon as possible. After getting the degree and getting placed I'll be going on board for cadet ship with my company.
Fees and Financial Aid
Since this is an upcoming field the competition to get into such colleges has increased drastically as a result there has been a hike in the tuition fees of the college. The complete cost of education is about 3,22,000. There are scholarships provided to students who do well in the semester exams that is the first 40 people get paid from 10000-40000 depending on the rank they get.
Campus Life
Horizon is one of the major fests held here it's typically on the month of March along with that we have our college anniversary on November every year. There are wide variety of books available in the college library from fiction to college books you can find everything there. All the classes are fully equipped with good lighting, projectors and air conditioned classrooms. Well a student can take part in any kind of sports which include football, squash, badminton, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and swimming because of the availability of all such commodity. There are various number of clubs one of which is Jigayassa which is focused of helping kids who cannot afford school and Abeer which includes the music band of the institute.
Hostel Facilities
Well in the hostels you are provided with a bed, cupboard and other necessary accessories. The meal in the college is of good quality and we do get different kinds of meals on a daily basis. The registration process of the hostels in very simple because you get a bill including everything in the semester fees so we don't need to be worried about paying the hostel fees separately.
Admission
Well about the admission process you need to have a minimum of 60% aggregate in PCM in your board exams to qualify for the TMISAT entrance exam to get into TMI. You can find all the application forms at www.tmi.tolani.edu along with all other details. And yes there are reservations for SC, ST and OBC. The level of this exam is moderate and anyone with a decent amount of preparation can crack it. The improvements they can make are with the time they make us wait to announce the results sometimes that's the only improvement I could suggest.
Other Applied Colleges
SRM Institute of Science and Technology - [SRMIST] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
SRM had mass intake which made me think that they wont be able to provide good placements in my 4th year and besides this was my backup option if I didnt get into TMI for Marine engineering.
