Course Curriculum Overview
I was mainly interested in physics. Hence I decided to choose mechanical engineering. The course covers almost all the topics required for industrial mechanical engineering thoroughly. Although I found the teaching quite unsatisfactory. We had our first three semesters online, so it was hard to keep up with the syllabus and learn as much as we wanted at the same time. Each semester includes 2 main exams plus a few quizzes and assignments depending on the respective staff. Mostly the professors use ppts to teach. Which I did not like. I prefer they focus on using textbooks instead.
Internships Opportunities
There aren't many internship opportunities in this college. But one can do research internships under any faculty member. I have done research projects under 2 professors. Even projects under professors from other departments can be done here.
Placement Experience
Placement is pretty good. Our previous batch had much better placement stats than us. But I blame the recession. I got placed with average package. All 4th year students are eligible for placements. A lot of companies have visited. I cannot name each one. The average package is 9lpa. Software companies have offered higher packages than other companies.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tution fees is roughly around 1 lakh per annum. But it is reduced by 1/3rd for me since I have EWS quota which I fully paid through education loan. Mess charges are around 30000 per semester. I am not aware about any other financial aids. I have not undertaken any campus employments.
Campus Life
We have 2 major festivals called Engineer and Incident. Engineer is a technical fest held in October and Incident is a cultural fest held during late February or early March. Both of them last 3 full days and are quite enjoyable. We have various exclusive clubs like IEEE, IE, ACM, IET, ISTE and Rotaract. And many others like artist forum, music club, photography club, etc. We have sports teams too. Slam dunk is our famous basketball competition which takes places usually during Incident. We have 2 big libraries. And 2 AC equipped reading halls.
Hostel Facilities
I live in one of the girls hostel buildings. I found the hostel facility pretty mediocre. They did not have enough single rooms for all the 3rd year students during our batch. So I ended up in a renovation building which had double rooms. The building wasn't equipped with mosquito barriers, rooms were extremely hot, the roofs leaked during monsoon. It was a bad experience. The room I got for my 4th year is much better but still very hot since I am in the top floor and also has a lot of mosquitos. The message food is not tasty. It is affordable but the quality is not good. Hygiene vise it is not bad although I've found the washed plates to be greasy at times. But taste wise it is bad. The rice is undercooked. The curries are either too spicy to too bland. Breakfast is somewhat better.
Admission
I took the JEE mains exam. It was conducted twice per year during the time I wrote it. It is a 3 hour multiple choice exam which contains problems from math, physics and chemistry. My percentile was 97.2. I got selected for mechanical engineering in the first round of josAA allotment. I also had the EWS quota.
