Very nice college

My overall rating for my college would be 3.5/5. Of course it is not an IIT, but among colleges in Bengal, it is very good.

This is a very reputed college in West Bengal. Among government colleges, Kalyani Government Engineering College holds the 2nd rank within WBJEE colleges. The faculty is really good and very atudent friendly. The environment of the college is for studies and all round development.

The college itself does not provide internships for its students. But there are startups run by senior students and alumni that hire interns from among students.

The placement and job scenario in the engineering field in whole of bengal, and all over India is poor these days. I wouldn't say my college is an exception. Campus placements have decreased in past few years compared to before that. But yhe college tries to bring companies for campus recruitment.

There are many events conducted in our college by the students. The main annual event is named Espektro. It is an extravagnza event organised mainly by the KGEC Students Union, and it takes its form only by the participation and help on each and every student and faculty member. Other events include Hall Days of every hostel (5 in number), Passout ceremonies and Fresher's Welcome parties among many others.

Since the college is a government run institute, the fees structure is nominal as compared to other private engineering colleges in Bengal and other parts of India. The present fees structure nearly amounts to ?1k per month excluding one time admission charges.

There are scholarships for the economically backward students from the college and many others available thrrough exams.

The campus is full of greenery. The academic buildings and hostels are spreadout all over the campus. The gender ratio is notably poor. There are various clubs run by students such as music club, dance club, robotics club, entrepreneurship cell and others that are for extra curricular activities of the students. They are really good.

There are 5 hostels of our college in all (4 boys hostels and 1 girls hostel). All the hostels are well maintained. There are security guards on duty 24*7 in all hostels. The hostels are cleaned every second day and the bathrooms every week. Two meals are provided from the hostel mess. Food is not the best but very good.

The senior atudents are very very helpful. Being a first year student, I can very proudly day that our college is completely RAGGING FREE. The widespread alumni network is helpful in jobs.

The exam structure is semester type like all other engineering colleges in India. There are two semesters in a year. Two internal exams (basically class tests) are conducted each semester by the faculty members. The average marks in these tests are added to the semester results.

This college takes admission through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) counselling process. The WBJEE counselling process starts a few days after the ranks are published. The system allotts seats to students according to preference and his/her rank. If this college is allotted, the admission process after that includes document verification and registration in the college for which one needs to visit the college for a day.
