Course Curriculum Overview
I want to become a chemical engineer which is the reason I chose this field. This is because a chemical engineer can solve a wide range of problems. I am interested in reasearch of new products and processes. I would maybe get to work on minimization of environmental effects of industrial process, develop sustainable solutions for energy production and many more things. I think that the faculties here should be more cooperative and not just strict. They also need to be more practical in teaching so that students take interest and not just mug-up for marks. The main exams happen twice a semester other than tests, namely mid-semester and end-semester exams. They are on a difficulty level of around 8 out of 10 according to me
Internships Opportunities
Chemical core companies such as Reliance Industies, IOCL offer internships in role such as process engineer, quality control, etc. and programming related companies offer roles such as date anylyst, software development etc. Stipend may or may not be provided. Project may include developing a new chemical product and outcome may include to conduct performance test etc,
Placement Experience
From 6th semester onwards students are eligible for campus placements. Various top companies visited as usual such as IOCL, HPCL, Reliance Industries, Accenture, De Shaw India Private Limited, Goldman Sachs, Adobe, Oracle etc. Highest package was offered 50 lakhs by De Shaw India Private Limited. Percent of students placed is around 70 percent. After completing the degree, I look forward to get placed in a top chemical company as I want to become a chemical engineer.
Fees and Financial Aid
According to data, all NITs hiked overall fee(including tuition and hostel fee) from 70000 Rs to 1.25 lakh per annum in 2016. Full tution fee waiver is provided to SC or ST students with parent's annual income less than 1 lakh. Certain scholarships are also provided if the annual income is less than 8 lakhs. Scholarships such as Medhaavi Engineering Scholarship, BR Samaga scholarship and many more. There are various events which happen in the campur around year. I became a volunteer in certain events.
Campus Life
There are a lot of events that happen over the year. Axis, National Solar Vehicle Challenge, Aarohi, Consortium, Quizfest, etc. A wide range of books are available in the library. Books related to subjects or related to other fields too. In classrooms, we have facilities of projectors, and speakers. Regarding sports and extracurricular activities, there are a huge variety. Football, basketball, chess, badminton, table tennis and many more. Social groups and clubs are also there such as Velocity, shell, octaves, and many more.
Hostel Facilities
There are a number of hostels in the campus. My hostel has cupboards, table, chair, bed,, nice big window, proper lighting and enough space. The mess food quality is not great. The menu gets changed every month. For hostel, I paid around 800000 for a year. Some also decide to rent a room or pg close to campus outside.
Admission
I got admission in this college through JEE mains exam. Cut-off for chemical engineering for OBC was around 96 percentile. Application form is available on jeemain.nta.ac.in. Application fee has reservation benefits too, for general/obc/ews male it is 2000 rs and for female 1600 rs while for sc/st/pwd it is 1000 rs. In the year when I appeared for JEE mains, it happened 4 times in year and the best score was considered among all. The difficulty level was decent. No improvement needed in the admission process according to me.
Faculty
There are on average 6-7 faculties for around 90-100 students. Having a different faculty for each subject who has the best knowledge for their particular subject help students excel. Some of the faculties here are famous researchers in their own fields for example research related biofuel, and many more. Teachers are helpful. We can discuss our doubts in class or can visit their cabin whenver needed.
