Likes
- IIT ISM has campus area of around 350 acres which is quite large. Roaming in the campus at Eve is very refreshing. Oval garden , heritage building is the pride of the college.
- IIT ISM has two big grounds upper and lower ground for sports activities like cricket, football, hockey, athletics and other also. Student Activity Centre provides gym facility, tennis ground, and other indoor games.
- Infrastructure of college is really impressive, the central library, institute innovation hub , central research facility, aquamarine hostel are some of the high buildings of the college.
Dislikes
- There are a few things in the college about which I am not satisfied. Like coding culture of the college, like in the top IITs everyone start coding from 1st year , here this is not the case.
- In the end most of the things you have to study from YouTube. I think that's why college lags in placements, here the oncampus highest placement is a around 60lpa while it goes in crores in other IITs
- Here some teachers focus on grades not on actual knowledge. Here in college they want us to get marks like schools instead of focusing on things which are asked by companies in placements or internship.
Course Curriculum Overview
Well there are exam every two months, midsem then endsems . Course structure is overall easy compared to other top IITs. Even one of our professor said once that the course structure of your college is much low. You have to learn just some standard things. He said that in IIT Guwahati professor just teaches you and expect from you to find those things on internet and learn by yourself. They don't provide study materials . But in IIT ISM everyone here provides you study material. There are a lot of things which we have to learn from internet for our placement and internship. I think course should be such that to teach things which are asked by companies and help us to solve real world problems, not just the standard things.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities start from the 2md year of the college. Students can apply for them online and baed on their performance in coding round, they are selected. Companies visit in July for internship opportunities. Some of them are Google ,Amazon ,Flipkart, Goldman Sachs, Sprinkler, Uber, Jio , etc. Intern is of 2 months and at that time students are given a stipend of 1-1.5 lakh per month depending on the company. Sprinkler provides highest stipend of 2 lakh per month for sde role. In coding round companies asks questions of competitive programming and then in interview they ask dsa questions.
Placement Experience
The average package of the college is above 25 lakhs. Top companies like Google ,Amazon, Flipkart ,Goldman Sachs,Sprinkler, Wallmart, DE Shaw, Uber, American Express, Microsoft, and much more are invited to the college by carrier development centre of our college for internship and placements. Students can get internship from 2nd year of the college and based on their performance in company, they can get pre placement offer at the starting of final year. At the end of final year most of the students get placed in companies. Last year 140+ students out of 160 in CSE got placed in top MnCs. Highest package is of 1.3cpa , a ML student who got offcampus placement and lowest is 8 lpa. Some of the students after graduation goes for higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college fees for students whose family income is more than 8 lakhs is around 2.7 lakh per year. And whose family income is 1 to 8 lakhs have to pay 1.4 lakhs per year and those whose income is below 1 lakh have to pay 60k per year which are some of the standard institute charges. The hostel fees is nil but hostel mess fees is 18k per semester. Students can apply for fee waiver , based on their cgpa students can get their education fees in return those whose family income is below 8 lakhs. Thus there is no such problem for students who have financial problems.
Campus Life
IIT ISM has a large number of cultural clubs, technical clubs , sports club, etc. Annual fest like srijan, Concetto, parakram, khanan are charm of the college. Other clubs like LCI, fotofreaks, debating club (LITC) , singing club( manthan) , Abhay dramatic club, we the crew(dance club), and much more where students can show their talent. All the classroom have AC in them. All type sports activities are there two huge grounds for cricket , football, hockey, athletics, basketball court, gym ,etc. Books can be issued from library for one month. The central library provides facility of reading on all the floors.
Hostel Facilities
I am 3rd year student residing in the Aquamarine hostel having 14 floors. The room are quite large and spacious. Two almirah, two tables, two chairs, two beds are in the room . Wifi is also provided in the hostel. Meal quality is good , but not very good. There is grand dinner every two month. Hostel allocation process is really smooth, we just have to fill forms and provide them the fee receipt. Two students live in a single room. This is the best hostel of the college.
Admission
Admission in Bachelor degree is based on JEE Advanced score. After securing a good rank you have to appear for jossa counseling, and based on your rank college is alloted. I was asked to appear on 26 October 2022 for physical registration. There my identity was confirmed then I was allotted hostel. Admission process was well managed.
Faculty
Some of the faculties are experienced and really good at teaching. They teach you relevant things which is important for placements while some of them just provides you study material and expect from you to cram the things and just get good marks. I am not saying that all are bad, only some of them are not good. There is one to one interaction with professors and mentorship.
