Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The curriculum of this college, as a b.com student being promoted into the second year, i have mixed feelings. i took up bcom because i needed to have a laid back course which does not require me to be so engaged and active at the college but rather just give my exams and pass because i am also pursuing CA which is my main focus. but here the bcom course has 10 different subjects out of which every one of them is a different subject which requires you to give your whole attention and time to pass the exams with good scores meanwhile a normal bcom course is having no more than 4 subjects per semester and thakur college of science and commerce has 10 subjects per semester which is 20 exams including externals and internals per semester and the exams are having no gap to prepare in between each exam which is a very chaotic factor of this college, students should be given at least a minimum of one day gap between each exsm being conducted by the college so that we can prepare well for exa

Internships Opportunities

4

at the start of the year itself, the college provides us with ample opportunities for students for an internship, in which we can pick from several options, and pick the one we are most suitable with, either with on site internship, or online internships where we can work online. by semester 2 there are amazing opportunities presented to us to pick from. all throughout the year we are provided with internships which we can pick among. the stipends are pretty attractive for an internship, with 5k per month of salary provided. our college is also great when it comes to placements, the placements are provided by the college itself, where we are interviewed and asked to give an interview from which the interviewers can decide which interviewee to pick from and choose from the best of the best. the college is always keen on giving opportunities to provide for an internship experience to us, and gain internship experience for our job cv,and job experience, it is a helpful thing for students.

Fees and Financial Aid

the fee structure is kind of extremely expensive for one year. as a bcom student, i know for a fact that almost all colleges provide the course of bachelors of commercd for no more than 10,000 rupees but here at thakur college of science and commerce, the course of bcom is nearly 30,000 rupees. for each year. this is kind of justified when keeping in mind of the amount of subjects being taught which is around ten subjects per semester and also the number of internships available at the college. but every year you do have to pay a certain lumpsum of money for the ATKT exam or other activities of the college. campus employment opportunities are available at the college which is an amazing facility being provided by the college. scholarships as of now are not provided by the college or at least not for first year students but you can decide if your course is aided or unaided which makes you have a big reduction on the cost of your amount of fees which you have to submit for the semester..

Campus Life

3

The campus life was considerably amazing. The campus is big and beautiful, with places to hang out and canteen to have coffee and food at. you can make many friends and have fun at the campus. the name of my college fest is taarangan which is a very large fest where there is 3 days of fest and you can enjoy dj night, guest performance, food stalls to eat delicious food at and many more with just an id card to procure and secure your entry. the availability of books at the library is very versatile and the library is amazing with sufficient places to sit at and do your work and focus on your studies comfortably with proper working lights and fan and clean tables. you can also rent a book from the library as and when needed. clubs such as green club, NSS, WDC, yoga, etc we are also taken to the beach for a clean-up drive, where we help in cleaning up mumbai beaches, and contribute to mother nature plus do a helpful deed to the environment, which is great initiative, taken by the college

Admission

The admission process was rather easy, i had to submit the photocopy of my aadhar card, my cbse 12th pass certificate, migration certificate, 10th pass certificate or report card, my mumbai university application and tcsc application which you have to fill at the time of admission itself. i was sent home many times because i did not have a certificate with me but in the end i got the admission thankfully. it is easier for hsc students to take admission here. not so much is the same case for cbse and icse students though. the application form, application fees and dates were available at the counter itself, when you enter the college. so there should be no such confusion as to where to find and fill those. the peons are also helpful to guide you in this scenario. there was no entrance exam for bcom, if the seat was available you can directly enroll in the course and start the college then itself. the staff which was responsible for the admission process was kind of rude at times to me..

Faculty

1

The faculty has many members that you can go to help for. But the mentorship is really bad and the faculty can be extremely rude sometimes, though they are there to help us, they sometimes will fully ignore you and what you have to say or ask, which can be very offputting and stressful at times, they dont even let you borrow something as small as a stapler, which is lacking basic human decency. they have zero sense of sympathy towards their own college students whom theyre benefitting from which is a very heavy downturn point of studying in this college because it basically implies that there is no one to go for help to in case of an emergency which is kind of scary to think about. sure the faculty is helpful at times but most of the times they can be cold and mean towards you. the college itself is a nice college if you have been attending all the lectures and giving all the exams but in case of an emergency there are some points you have to keep in mind about the faculty of this coll

Placement Experience:

At TCSC placements are quite good as anyone. Even the SOBO colleges and Mithibai don't have placements as good as us. So this is why I always dreamt of studying here because since last 6-7 years, Thakur College placements have gone better and higher.

The good thing is that the college was not strict and was never forcing us to study rather it was seeing to it that it gave us proper advice and help us reach more towards my career goal. The bad part would be there were may staff which was very dull and was not kind, and no importance was given to correct their behaviour although it was evident by all.
