Remarks

College management is a bit ignorant of the facilities of the students in the institute. The college provides us with some unforgettable moments and it is certainly the golden period of the life which one spends as a student with lots of nostalgic feelings when it comes when you are about to leave the college.

Entrance Preview

Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology [IIEST] Shibpur which is formerly known as Bengal Engineering and Science University [BESU] or Bengal Engineering College [BE College] is one of the premier and esteemed institutes of West Bengal. It is a highly reputed institute and if people come to know that if one is a student of this Centrally funded Government institute, it's enough for them to estimate your academic standard.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum is bit heavily loaded especially in Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical. Measures are being taken to make students aware of the present methods, technologies, and materials to make the student's industry ready. The course curriculum is vast and laborious. You will spend many more sleepless nights working compared to your peers.

Internships Opportunities

The institute is having vocational projects under the mentorship and guidance of professors especially in the third and fourth year of the curriculum.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placements are OK. The highest salary package offered to the students of the civil department is 6 LPA, and the highest package offered to the students of the CSE stream is 12 LPA which is a good package to start with. The placements are improving every year as it belongs to an INI the standards of IITs and NITs.

College Events

5

REBECA is the main cultural fest celebrated at the institute. It a deadly combination of emotion and nostalgia which cannot be left behind by any student of this institute. It is a saying that "REBECA is not just a fest, Its an emotion". Famous celebrities and performers visit the campus during that time. Mika Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan, etc have visited the campus during recent years. INTRUO is the technical fest. And different clubs organize their own events.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Examination fee in this institute is a bit expensive which is the same as that of the NITs and less as compared to the IITs. This is the fee structure for the Institute Caution Money (One Time, Refundable) ?3,000 Tuition Fee (per Semester) ?62,500 Other Fees (per Semester) ?4,500 Total ?70,000

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, there are many scholarships based on performance in sports or academics. Also, loan facilities are available through the SBI branch present in the campus.

Campus Life

3.5

The college is well connected, and you can get public transport to all parts of the city by just stepping out of the college gate. The campus is surrounded by the market. Scholarships are available for meritorious students. Extracurricular activities include several active societies such as LitSoc, the literary society, DebSoc-the debating society, Reflexobeta-the dance society, Euphony-the music society, and Les Thespians-the dramatics society.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

hostel facilities are good. In the first year, you will have 4 persons/room which is quite good since the rooms are generally big. There are 3 hostels for first-year boys (8,9,10) and one for girls. Each hostel has its own mess and canteen. You won't face a problem in accommodation. Generally, all are allotted hostels. There is a common room which has an LCD TV, carom board. A separate table tennis room, a canteen, a library, a volleyball court, a green lawn etc. Each floor has 12 rooms. There are total 4 floors in each hostel. The food is not so good and one needs to go out for food occasionally skipping the hostel meal.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network is quite good. It is India's second oldest engineering institute and has its alumni all over the globe and working all over in different companies and organizations starting from Indian Railways to IAS and starting from ISRO to NASA. The alumni are very attached and quite helpful.

Exam Structure

For B Tech M tech Dual degree, we have total 10 semesters with an option to exit after 8 semesters (switch to B Tech). Each semester has mid-semester exams which are one of the factors that decide your internal marks. Also, class tests and assignments are counted in Internal Marks which are 30/100. Semester exams are 70/100. And finally, the GPA is calculated.

Admission

The selection of students at IIEST Shibpur is now done by JEE (Main) but earlier by 2014, the selection was being done by the merit list of West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations [WBJEE] Board which is conducted around in the month of April. The registrations for [WBJEE] start around the month of December and candidates are expected to register through an online portal on the website wbjeeb.nic.in. However, now the students have to appear and qualify JEE(Mains) to get selected in this institute.

Faculty

3

Faculty members are very good. Our director is the former director of NIT Allahabad, and he has also worked as a professor in IIT BHU. In the field of research, this college is far ahead of some IITs and most of the NITs as the institute mainly research oriented.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
