Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course I choose to pursue was B.Sc in Life Science. I chose to pursue my Bachelor's in Life Science because it was a Program course. The benefit of pursuing a program course over an honours courese is that it gives you more options and opportunities to explore after your graduation is done. You get a chance to find your true calling. My core subjects were Zoology, Botany and Chemistry. Besides that we have to select an extra subject (AECC or SEC) of our choice. My initial AECC were EVS and English in the 1st and 2nd semester respectively. My SEC subjects were Biofertilisers (3rd sem), Sericulture (4th sem), Pharmaceutical Chemistry (5th sem), and Intellectual Property Rights (6th sem). The course design was highly comprehensive. The syllabus was designed inclusively to have all the necessary units which it takes to build a life science graduate who is well versed with a little bit of everything.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

There are two dedicated societies which are at place to look after internship and placement opportunities. These are Ramjas Career Development Cell (CDC) and The placement cell. Internship opportunities were generally from the various new age startups and EdTech platforms. The roles offered were that of marketing and sales, finance, business development intern, content writing, social media marketing, PR, HR etc. The companies offering placement were the established tech and consultancy companies or the service providers in the business. Few names are Deloitte, D.E. Shaw, Genpact, L.E.K consulting, etc. The shortlisting process is often vigorous and the PIs are scheduled multiple times to check the overall expression of the candidate.

Fees and Financial Aid

University of Delhi is a central university which means the education here is affordable. My course being a non-technical course was cheaper and costed me around 14,000 INR per years. Besides this, an additional examination fees were charged by the university before the commencement of semester exam which is twice a year. The course fees however vary from course to course. There are many scholarships, government grants and financial aid available. University has various schemes for the underprivileged and backward class students. Students can check the availability and eligibility of all the scholarship on the university website. The foremost type of campus employment available was the annual Vice-Chancellor Summer Internship Program. The 2 month long summer internship program provides exposure, learning and a decent stipend of 15,000/month to the selected students. Besides that, there are many internship opportunities available which can be monetized.

Campus Life

5

The life at University's North Campus has always been vibrant and extraordinary. Ramjas too has been an epicenter of opportunities and exposure. The student life is joyous and empowering. There is always some or the other thing happening in the campus which gives a break from the monotony of academics. The department societies conduct workshops and seminars which involved eminent and renowned speakers and guests. Besides department societies, the college societies also organises flagship events, competitions and fests. The Ramjas Annual Fest "MOSAIC" is held once a year during the DU fest season. Mosaic is a two/three day event which comprises of competitions, games, events, DJ night, and a star night. The star night is the much awaited leg of the Mosaic which has a famous singer/artist as the guest. Besides extra curricular activities, ramjas has a dedicated sports complex and a gym. Students are also assigned accounts on the RC portal where they get all the updates.

Admission

The admission process of the University of Delhi has been completely shifted to online mode after COVID-19. Before 2020, admission used to held in offline mode. Presently, university takes admission based on the CUET-UG score. The National Testing Agency conducts the Common University Entrance Test (UG) once a year. The colleges releases course-wise cut-offs based on the CUET scores. Students also have to register themselves at the University's CSAS portal and have to fill a preference list according to the course and colleges of their choice. This is the most crucial step of the admission and should be done with utmost awareness and diligence. The entrance exam conducted is of hard to moderate level. University follows the centre's criteria of reservation.

Faculty

4.5

All the faculty members employed were Ph.D holders. Some of them had 20+ yrs. of teaching experience as well. Most of them have been a University of Delhi or Ramjas alumni. Former JNU professors and research scholars were also the part of distinguished faculty. Professors were intellectual, generous and helpful. The male female ratio of professors were also well maintained and balanced to promote gender equality. The Principal and HoDs were accessible and ever ready to help. Professors often prepared PowerPoint Presentation for the teaching-learning process. They provided us with notes or printed handouts. They even created WhatsApp groups for smooth communication and anytime doubt solving. Ramjas also has a Mentor-Mentee program where each teacher (of that batch) gets assigned 10-12 students who are the mentees and the teacher themselves are mentors. Each month 2 Mentor-Mentee meetings were compulsory to be scheduled and attendance used to be marked.

Other Applied Colleges

Fergusson College | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Microbiology)

Didn't clear the cutoff

Banaras Hindu University - [BHU] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Agriculture)

I thought DU will give more exposure than BHU.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum consists of relatable topics and interesting ones as well this is what quite influenced me to take this course. We have labs which help us learn how to prepare various organic compounds which are used in many day to day products . The course also has a 4th year research program. There should be more equipments in lab for the research. The frequency is good for exams being conducted and there level is also quite good

The students become eligible for the placements provided by the college in their 3rd year, while they can pursue internship offered by the college in previous years. Average sized companies visited the campus with lots of students being placed for jobs. The highest package I am not aware of but lowest was of around 300000 pa. I plan to pursue masters after my graduation degree.

I don't know a lot about campus placements but I know that there is a training and placement cell in our college that provides good packages to many students. Some students got more than 7lpa last year. I will be doing my Post graduation after college and will make a career in academics.
