What Students Say
Likes
- Low course fees is a standout feature for students who want the credibility of DU without having to compete for regular college courses of DU. The degree from this college is equivalent to the DU BACHELOR degree given to any regular DU student.
- The hard copy of the study material were provided every semester at the centre. The study material itself were very comprehensive and useful and I didn't any other material to pass the university exams.
- Since this is an open college, there is no minimum attendance criteria for the students. This attribute makes SOL a very popular choice for students of professional courses lile CA, CMA etc. The exams aren't very different from CA course subjects.
Dislikes
- There a considerable doubt of the students overall for the accountability of officials towards student concerns. I've heard of many instances where students were made to appear for reexam only because of the omission of attendance by the officials.
- Annual admission payments of each year are made through online mode through their website which is not very trustworthy. There are numerous failed payments. They really need to work upon their payment portal as the payment time is usually just 1month
- Students have nearly no idea of how to prepare for exam. They are just given the study material and that's it. At least, they should provide chapterwise weightage, sample papers and previous year questions on their websites.
Course Curriculum Overview
I am a CA student and being a student of professional course required me to give significant focus and time to my course. With some reference, i got to know about this college where there was no minimum attendance criteria. Plus the exam subjects aligned with my CA subjects so the exams were pretty doable for me without losing focus from my CA exam preparation. The only demerit for me especially was i had to travel from my hometown to delhi everytime exam session because they used to conduct in DU colleges in Delhi only. The preparation time they gave in between the exams were sufficient for me to clear the papers, practicing the previous year papers were main focus during exam preparation. Overall the course helped me get a bachelor degree without much hassle along with my CA course.
Fees and Financial Aid
I was enrolled for BCOM HONS 3 YEAR CBCS COURSE. The annual fees were around ?4000 per year plus 500 per backlog subject(if any). The fees were pretty comsiderate for the students who don't want to spend extravagantly for their degree. I used to take classes from Shiksha dham for each practical subject. The teachers were pretty good and competent there. To sum it all, i completed my 3year course in about ?12000(college fees) + ?6000( if you take online classes from Shiksha dham website).
Campus Life
School of Open learning is an open college and there are no particular clubs for students since yhey only come to college during exams. The regular access to university clubs and sports activities is generally for the regular college students of Delhi university. There are no recognised student-run social groups, clubs or portals. This college is specifically for students who want to give exams and get degree. There is no such college life or hostel facility for them.

The faculty provided for the SOL students, although qualified, aren't very dedicated towards their job. They think that the SOL students aren't meant for proper teaching and oftentimes, they skip the topics.
