Entrance Preview
I opted for Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra because it was the best college which I got in the list of colleges I selected during the choice filling of JOSA. Also, my father's eldest brother had studied from the same college so my family knew that BIT Mesra is one gem of a college.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum of Birla Institute of Technology is very well planned. In the first year,i.e., the first two semesters, all the branches' students have to study the same subjects but from the second year onwards, the studies are branch related. Every branch's students get to perform practicals of all other branches.
Internships Opportunities
Birla Institute of Technology provides internships at a large scale to its students. Companies like Goldman Sachs provide internships for two months, with a stipend of up to 50,000 INR.
Placement Experience
A lot of Multinational Companies and National level companies come to Birla Institute of Technology in order to provide job opportunities to the students and they give handsome salaries too. The training and placement department is quite efficient. Major companies include Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Tata Motors, PwC , etc.
College Events
Birla Institute of Technology has a total of 22 clubs (and commitees) including technical, non- technical and managerial clubs. These clubs organise different workshops and events throughout the academic year. We have a total of four fests, tehcnial, sports, cultural and a hackathon.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is quite affordable. It's not as high as the big private institutions. A total of 2,51,000 INR is the payable amount for an entire academic year for Tuition fee, Mess fee, Hostel fee, etc all included. Further, no more fees are charged by the college other than this.
Fees and Financial Aid
Birla Institute of Technology provides scholarships to students who score a GPA of 8 and above at the end of two semesters. (For SC/ST/OBC/PWD students)
Campus Life
Campus life of Birla Institute of Technology is one of the best in Eastern India. BIT Mesra provides an opportunity for the all round development of a student. Competitions like quizzes, debates, and workshops on robotics, coding, etc are organized on a regular basis. Gender ratio is approximately 5:1 (boys: girls)
Hostel Facilities
The hostels here are very well maintained. Cleaning of every part of the hostels is done on a regular basis. There is a separate area for the girl's hostel and are strict rules for girls. The mess is one of the best in Eastern India, providing a lot of variety throughout the year.
Alumni/Alumna
The seniors are very helpful. They had always helped me whenever I asked them for some help. After learning from them, I and other second-year students are also helping the freshers.
Exam Structure
The exam structure is well balanced. There are maximum 15 marks for quizzes ( or class tests ) ,maximum 25 marks for the mid semester examinations and a maximum of 60 marks for the end semester examinations. Students have to score atleast 40 marks out of 100 in order to pass in each subject.
Admission
I got admission in Birla Institute of Technology by clearing the entrance examination of JEE Mains. The general cut off was 81 out of 360 and I was able to score 164 marks. During the online counseling of JOSA, I filled BIT Mesra as one of my choices and then my rank allowed me to take admission here.
Faculty
The faculty of Birla Institute of Technology is highly educated and experienced. Almost all the teachers here have completed their Ph.D. and have a teaching experience of over 10 years. They are very helpful and give personal attention to the students when we have any kind of doubts.
