Remarks

Basically, college is set up in an industrial area so it cuts you from the main city and you have to submit an application before leaving the college and life is pretty tough in college being it a paramilitary college.

Entrance Preview

Always wanted to go on a Mechanical side so I heard that Marine Engineering is basically Mechanical on board ship with some real-life thrill and the pay is really very very good. So why shouldn't someone go for it? Thought life is pretty tough being a para-military college but that's where all the fun lies.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course is not just about your studies it is also about your physical as mental health since one has to be physically and mentally fit to sail on a ship under very rough weather conditions. The course is a bit lengthy and vast but once you get the hold of your life in college, everything will fall in place.

Internships Opportunities

Yea, so this is the difference between any other field and in Merchant Navy. You do that have to go for an internship during the course but you have gone for training after completion of the course which will be given provided by the company in which you will select during placement. Earlier there was no security regarding the placement but recently DG Shipping of India has passed a circular according to which an institution can only admit a candidate if and only if he gets an security of getting placed in a company.

Placement Experience

4.5

As we know that the market is in recession and shipping field is all about the market. It is one of the most professional industry in the world, so placements are less but now recent steps taken by the Ministry of Shipping have to make sure that each and every individual gets a job.

College Events

3.5

The college conducts various kinds of events like: Sports Fest, Annual event namely Prayaan consisting of many events like debate, DJ war, model making, essay writing and many more which give the opportunity to each and every candidate, outside colleges, are also involved in the event. Then another is POP i.e. Passing Out Parade for each batch.

Fee Structure And Facilities

One has to pay 2.5 lac per annum which is quite high considering it a central government college but nowadays that's a normal fee of any engineering college, also the fees of private colleges go up to 4 lac per annum so considering this it is a nominal fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

50% scholarship is given to each girl cadet for all the 4 years and those who top the batch is given 1.5 lac and 2nd and 3rd topper is 50k each. And education loan can be taken if needed.

Campus Life

4

Thought being a co-ed college the gender ratio is very bad since I'm India generally girls don't want to join merchant Navy because the life is pretty tough and you have to stay away from the family. So very fewer girls take admission in the college. Though lab facilities are nice with experienced faculty members.

Hostel Facilities

5

All the hostel facilities, mess food, 4 pairs of uniform, 2 sports uniform, books and copies for all the 4 years are included in the fees. The hostel location is amazing since college is sea facing and mess food is also nice since the mess committee consists of 2 cadets from each batch.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network is very strong WMD very vast spread all over the globe and tries to help their juniors if that possible within their capabilities.

Exam Structure

Examination structure is same as most of the colleges that are 2 semesters in a year, the 4-year course so in total 8 semesters consisting of 7-8 papers in initial 2 years and then 6 papers for the last two years in each semester. Papers are bit tough and test your academic approach also. But to increase the interest of Student, University offers 1.5 lac scholarship to topper of each batch.

Admission

They conduct their own exam namely IMU-CET through which you will get your rank all over India. After that, you have to go for counseling at Chennai which is the head office and then you have to select your college out of the 7 campuses which come under IMU. Many private colleges also accept this score. Now procedure for counseling have changed, it can be now done online.

Faculty

4.5

During my time faculties were mostly visiting faculties since I was the first batch of B-Tech, but even after that visiting faculties were highly experienced and confident. But now University have started with permanent faculties who are highly experienced as the by my juniors.
