Remarks
The college changed my life. I am what I am because of this college. They not only brought out a more responsible adult in me but also helped me gain so much confidence. I can surely say that there is so much more to this college then studies, it brings out overall development in the students.
Entrance Preview
It was growing in popularity and was a budding university. I am so glad I choose this college. I wasn't sure if one should go for the morning or the evening college, but the right decision was the morning college. The college has really grown in popularity throughout Gujarat now.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was very liberal. We had many electives and research-based or practice-based studies. For every subject in a semester, there were several projects. The teachers would give headlines about the projects and then the students need to take it from there. The electives are also very interesting including language studies etc.
Internships Opportunities
They didn't provide internships when I was a student there. However, I have recently heard that they have introduced a cell in the university primarily to inform about internship positions to their students.
Placement Experience
Well, to be very honest, placements after B.com are not yet a thing in India. That is why there were no placements after college. Children either joined their businesses, went for further studies, or maybe looked for a job by themselves. This is not different from any other b.com college in India.
College Events
This was another fantastic part of my college life. The college celebrated all the important days in student life including national days, teachers day, Christmas, Navratri etc. These days called for a lot of student participation and the student council was always active in participating.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure, was not that expensive when I was a student. We paid 21000 per semester. This was so because I was a student from outside Gujarat. There are certain rules and guidelines that the college follows regarding students who finished their 12th board from within Gujarat (irrespective of their board) or from outside, geographically. On the basis of this their fee is decided. But all said and done it is not that expensive.
Fees and Financial Aid
There were different grants given from different alums, also there were grants that were offered from the university and the government. One needs to inquire about these at the time of admission. I was not the recipient of any such grant although.
Campus Life
As mentioned in my previous comments, college life was fantastic. There were so many extracurricular activities including the social forum, the speaker's forum, the youth festival etc. We spent the whole day even after classes to finish work on these activities. It was so much fun and enjoyable.
Hostel Facilities
I never stayed in the hostel so I cannot comment. But this questions needs me to answer in at least 250 characteristics so I will put in my friend's experiences. The hostel was not that bad. It had all the basic facilities that a person can ask for, however, it was not anything fancy.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network at HL is pretty strong. They give a great chance to the students to interact and create close bonds with the alumni through events organised by the alumni association.
Exam Structure
There were college semesters so we had a mid-semester paper and the end semester paper. The mid semes had objective based MCQ questions and the end semes had subjective long answer questions. Other than that there was a project component as well as mentioned above.
Admission
I was late for my admission since I wanted to give Delhi university a chance, well they didn't want to give one to me. nevertheless, I went through a recommendation to AU. I was taken to the principal's office, my mark sheet was evaluated. A quick personal interview was taken and then I was given the admission.
Faculty
This was the best part of the university. The professors never made us feel that we were students only. The whole group of teachers and students was usually referred to as the HL family (the name of the commerce college of AU is HLIC or at least it used to be). They were supportive, helpful and very interactive.
